I had/have a monk strap pair with a square toe (black), a zippered boot (black), a penny loafer (black), and a pair of those ubiquitous brown lace-ups...

The boots are good for riding, that's really it...
I find 'em all to be far too bulky now...

, and black 20-eyes (i.e. knee-length). I do love the idea of wearing them with something completely unexpected...like wearing them with long full layered wool skirts in soft neutral colours. I don't like the heavy goth/metal connotation though...docs are perhaps one of the most strongly stereotyped shoe around. I'd like the burgeoning trend to be more focused on the early 20th century utilitarianism of the style.
