Downton Abbey

Regarding Mrs Patmores nephew Lord Grantham discovered he had been shot for cowardice, not treason, he'd obviously got there and refused to fight or had been seen trying to do something along the lines of what Thomas had done to get out the trenches. Grantham told Mrs Patmore the truth but suggested it went no further and and just to tell people he died.

^^There are only 7 episodes in the UK - unless you include season 2? I read that the US version wasn't cut that much, so you don't need to worry,

Lady Mary is by far the wittiest character on the show. She's so smart and confident, and I like that she learns from her mistakes. She shows character development. And she's totally cute :brows:

oh really, only 7 episodes? cause page1 of this thread said there were 8 in all but anyhow, i did get to watch all of S1's 7 episodes but i thought that there was a storyline missing somewhere since the season finale's story resumed after the Crawleys' supposed trip to London where Sybil made her debut, and i never saw that part in episode 6 so i thought it was missing.. well i hope they didn't cut off that portion if ever, i sure don't wanna miss anything in this series :p

and Squizree i always thought Lady Mary looked abit like Anouck Lepere. a prettier version, anyway

Heh, I think the Dowager Countess is hilariously witty too (or is it unintentional witty?) but otherwise, I agree completely. Mary's my absolute favourite for her many, many layers. I love how she's developed since episode 1, yet still in many ways is still the same. I remember how she apologised to Carson for invading the servants' rooms because she genuinely felt she had behaved wrongly.

^
You didn't miss anything regarding Sybil's debut. It was not in the show at all. I guess, because it's called Downton Abbey, they are bypassing other locations - but mostly, it's probably from a budgeting perspective. I read that each episode costs £1 million already.

The war scenes must cost so much already. And all the dresses ofcourse. I read some pieces can only be worn once. The epitome of vintage. Take that hipsters.

^ And Edith's dress gets gravy spilt on it LOL

The dresses <3

I love Mary's wardrobe the best. It's not just her dresses, but her hats and other tailored pieces. They're stunning!

 Oh my, the horror of it. But yeah, I would definetly be on my way killing someone if they ever spilled something on a McQueen/Givenchy dress. Good thing I don't have any.

My absolute favorite was Sybil's trouser outfit in episode 4. The headpiece was gorgeous too.
Though the outfits worn in episode 2 were pretty stellar too. Especially Edith's.

Had to post this - flawless song for Matthew & Mary :D

(spoilers for season 2)

I took the test too... And I'm hilariously: Violet, Dowager Countess

You are a born leader. You are proud and confident because you have rarely been wrong. You care about your family and your reputation is very important to you.

^Me too. It's alarmingly on the money. Silly quiz! On another note, without giving anything away, I just wanted to say if you thought Mrs Bates was a b*tch, you haven't seen anything yet! I really find it hard to hate her though because I actually look after Maria who plays her and she's the nicest woman and gives great cuddles! They're all lovely actually, i feel a bit sorry for Laura who plays Edith too, being the most unpopular sister!

^ You work on the set? :brows: Can you spill a teenie tiny spoiler (I live for spoilers) :D

No I'm with the agency that looks after Maria Doyle Kennedy (Mrs Bates). To be honest when we get scripts in of shows I love, I skim, I read the parts of my actors and try to avoid as much as possible because otherwise I live my life in a perpetual state of knowing everything that's going to happen in everything and I'm too much of a tv and film geek to want that to happen! I love Downton, I like watching it in real time as much as possible for the cliff hangers and everything else!

Ahh that's an exciting job. :flower: I also really like that you still want to enjoy the show as a viewer, seeing everything for the first time.

Hehe, yes didn't really trust it after reading that description of Edith

Although, I could have gotten worse I suppose. I kinda view Violet as a funnier version of Catherine de Bourgh - with an actual heart.

I'm sure Maria is wonderful irl. Her character just annoyed me royally in The Tudors and of course, now she's the roadblock for Mr. Bates and Anna so people are going to be very  at her new character :p

That seems to be a great job Littlepaperstars! I can't imagine how you're able to keep yourself from spoiling specific things.

My thoughts on episode 3: I seriously can't wait for episode 4! There seems to be a lot of tension going on with Isobel/Lady Grantham. Also, Sybil/Mary concerning Sir Richard Carlisle. And also, Sybil/Branson. :brows: But more importantly William and Matthew. :(
And Lady Edith has really softened for me this episode. I actually kind of adored her. All this girl needs is some recognition. And poor Mister Lang also, anxiety attacks are no good.
And laughing at Mrs. Pattmore. Daisy looks freaked out though.
