I really love both of these collections this season but I think that that Dries stuff is prabably easier to wear & integrate with my other clothes than the marni stuff. I dolove the marni skirts though. anyone agree with me?

i think just the opposite...i think that dries stuff is either spot-on or totally off meaning that either you need the perfect thing to wear with it or it goes with nothing....

marni, at least in my wardrobe, tends to go with everything bc it doesn't really *match* anything just co-ordinates in that quirky (thrifty) way

i so agree helena , i could live on Dries and Marni myself, their styles mix well (fresh hues and all) but there is also a diffrence which makes both lines fresh.

contemporary faves together with Lanvin and Martin Grant

    ps: welcome to tFS :flower:

I really liked the marni winter stuff but finding the spring stuff harder.

I have bought a lovely blue/grey dries skirt that has a layer of heavy lace over a flimsy silk layer which is beautiful - I also bought a wrapover purple sweatshirt which looks great with the skirt but I am finding it difficult to work out what shoes to wear - it will look great with flip flops but I live in Scotland & its not warm enough here yet. I bought a pair of flat lilac round toe suede shoes that look nice but again I can't wear tights with them & i freeze to death without tights.

Also saw some really lovely marni skirts last weekend - a silvery/gold one but I didn't try it on so not sure how it would sit as the shape did look slightly 'difficult' but it might just be one of those things that as soon as you try it on you just understand it completely. Must try it on next time.

Hehe, isn't it cool when you click on a thread, and you KNOW that a certain someone posted there already (meaning you are getting to know their style/personality)? I was looking for a post from you. :flower:

I have to say that I like Dries better. Marni is still a very young label (or has been put on the world fashion map very recently, I don't know too much about the label), but they are doing their thing right. I think Dries is just more diverse in his collections, and his tailoring is a bit crisper. Dries was my absolute fav. for a while, he is still a fav., but I think he toned it down a bit, and is going a more commerical route (now i see things made in hungary, italy, etc.., used to be all Belgium), which is not a bad thing in itself, of course - good for him.

I am glad you like scotland - its beautiful but a bit of a fashion wasteland. I need regular trips to Paris & London...

Cruise stuff isn't very nice - its all Roberto Cavalli type stuff which isn't really my kind of thing. Glasgow girls tend to be quite flashy and trashy. Harvey Nichols in edinburgh started out really well but they are obviously finding it quite difficult to sell some of the more interesting designers so seem to be concentrating on 'safer' stuff. They do sell Marni & Dries Van Noten and one bonus is that they have great sales because scottish people don't really 'get' labels like those so they have to sell it all off really cheap at the end of the season. I got a beautiful Marni blouse & jacket in January that I would have stuggled to afford had they not been on sale. Next time come at sale time!!

count me in the club...marni and dries are both big faves of mine...i have been wearing dries for awhile, but have recently started buying marni...

there is often a fit problem with marni however...i don't think they have it down yet and it varies wildly...i tried on the exact same dress...in three fabrics...they all fit completely differently and none of them fit well...two didn't fit at all...they've got to get production under control...

but i still  them both so much...even the accessories... :flower:

I have yet to try a Marni piece on (I'm eyeing a pair of pants ;) ), but I had the exact same problem with MMM once - three pairs of pants, SAME fabric but different color and totally different fit.

I agree that their styles mix very well (you could see that in thier shows). I'm not really a big fan of Dries or Marni but, what I like about Dries is his prints and colours and the fact he stuck with what he believed in from the start. Marni I like how she mixes her clothes and the quirkiness.

marni is a very old fashion house, though they used to be famous mainly for their furs.
they started 'waking up' when Consuello got married to one of the Marni boys (around 1996) at the begining she tried to turn the label to the 'new Etro'

actually i do see marni being a bit influenced from Dries :ninja:

hmmm...maybe...but it's beyond sloppy...it's just cut wrong... too tight in all the wrong places and too big in the rest... :( ...some pieces are fine though...it's just inconsistent...???alomost as though some of the collection is being made in another place...?
