Dsquared2 'Icon' F/W 2021.22 : Naomi Campbell by Giampaolo Sgura

Second shot is very cute and approachable (like the clothes), it's giving me something different than your usual do-not-compare-yourself-to-me-ever Naomi look.

Lol, what a disaster. The first pic is one of the strangest photographs of Naomi I have seen, it does't even look like her. It's like she has a FaceApp filter on her face. The second one is if Naomi was advertising a second-hand clothing store for middle-aged women in a rural area that is probably selling fakes.

Ridiculous. "Icon" should chill with botox and fillers.

I've always liked this brand, but their basic clothes are way too expensive.
Naomi isn't selling any of it, with her always frozen expressions.
The photographer is like a poor man's M&M, or Luigi and Iango.
Either of those duos would have elevated this, but I guess the twins are on a budget.

I’m happy that Naomi is still an in-demand model after all these years. The resurgence she had for the past 2 years is admirable but now I understand the fatigue for the supermodels in the 90’s.

I’m tired of seeing Naomi. So I can imagine how it was in the 90’s to actually see the same 10 girls in rotation on Fashion magazines, tabloïds, shows, campaigns or TV.

I really need a break from « smizing Naomi ». She is not willing to give something else!

Who is that? Why did they lighten her skin

Well, Black skin may be lightened and White skin may be darkened beautifully and naturally when executed skillfully. It really depends on how skilled the photographer is with lighting, and— how experienced they or their retoucher is with post. In this case, there’s just too much severe post creating this unnatural contrast between dark and light, so the highlighting “lighting” seems to own much more to not understanding that the tonality of skin doesn’t work as they’ve executed on Naomi than Giampaolo’s ability to light her properly. This is amateur and heavy-handed. Can’t believe this was signed off for a campaign, and by a high-profile brand LOL

(Noticed that the Vuitton bag campaign with Liya’s “lightening” is the same: Incompetently executed. Whoever is doing the post, has no understanding of how lighting naturally lightens Black/dark skin. How such incompetence goes unchecked and is hired for such high-profile work is laughably pathetic. But these are the days.)

She looks like Janet Jackson in the second shot. Maybe it’s the smile.

The Queen is flawless and looks nothing like that in person. It's the retouching team that should be getting scorned.

Here she is at the Balenciaga show on Oct 1st.

Are they still making money lately? All i saw, DSquared2 didnt have great clothes in couple years

I like dsquared, but I also know their clothes arent breaking any fashion trends; something from 5, 10 years ago wont look so outdated today even, especially the pair of jeans and the tee shirt Naomi has on her in this campaign.

So using her, makes me think it could be a campaign from 5 years ago, and whats the point?

and yes, I am tired of seeing Naomi too.

The early 90s were certainly a different time entirely - the media landscape was so limited, that just because a model appeared on the cover of 20 magazines in one year didn't mean you had a hope of knowing about it or getting hold of them. I spent the early part of the 90s never knowing who would be on the cover of any import magazine until it turned up in the store, and if I wasn't on time to buy the only copy available, that was that. And the scarcity of it prevented any sense of overkill, it felt more like you had to raise your game to keep chasing that one copy of Vogue Paris or Italia, to catch a glimpse of the world of high fashion that always seemed just out of reach.

These days, being able to access everything at your fingertips has its benefits, but scarcity creates a particular sort of passion and interest that is hard to replicate in a world where everything is spread out on the table for everyone to see.
