Elisabeth ‘Babeth’ Djian is the founder and editor-in-chief of Numéro magazine. Dijan was motivated to found the magazine because of her dissatisfaction with the titles available for women like her.
Djian told The Sunday Times, "I was bored with magazines that told me how to seduce a man. I wanted to create this magazine for an intelligent, smart woman who wants to read about art, design, music: not about stupidity – creams that take away wrinkles, you know, which is stupid."
The magazine has since launched multiple international editions and a menswear title, Numéro Homme. Dijan came to prominence as the fashion director for the influential publication Jill. She has also held positions at French and Italian Vogue, Mixte and Glamour.
Influential fashion critic Cathy Horyn once described Djian as having "the intimidating look of a French madam, heightened by stiletto booties, a wink of a black bra and a laugh as free as salt,” when discussing Dijan’s publication, ‘Babeth’, a retrospective of her work and collaborations.
A testament to her career, the book included imagery created by Mert Alas and Marcus Pigott, Inez and Vinoodh, Nathaniel Goldberg, Karl Lagerfeld , Peter Lindbergh , Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Guido Mocafico, Sofia Sanchez & Mauro Mongiello, Liz Collins, Sølve Sundbø, Camilla Åkrans, Greg Kadel, Dusan Rejlin, Ellen von Unwerth and Paolo Roversi.
