Elle France August 28, 2025 : Aivita Muze by Leon Mark

Not sure if I really like any of the three covers, but I'm excited that the A/W Spécial Mode issue is here.

a bit dated but it's ok i guess...the street shots are the best imo

It’s usually a tad unfair to review a scattering of pics without seeing the finished layout: An editorial isn’t a gallery. And the best layouts will do wonders for what may be perceived as mediocre shots.

In tis case, there’s at least a few unfinished stories with the potential to be solid in there somewhere: That circa1987 random test shots on the street before the color-correction; White girl doing living out her 1980s Japanese designer obsession; and Eastern European school marm (probably in the 1980s). A stronger publication like Bazaar France and Italia could selvedge this shoot into a few strong stories. But ELLE France is a weekly publication, and this story shows: Very rushed looking shoot, with everything and the kitchen sink sort of styling, just to produce content for a tight deadline. Like @MModa mentioned, still a few good shots.

At least Aivita and her agency must be happy that this shoot is filling her agency book to optimize her booking potential.

@Phuel Absolutely, a layout makes a difference. Sometimes fashion editorials do not look good posted as random photographs but look appealing on the layout.

I wonder how long it takes to shoot all these photos, since the pay is quite low compared to other modelling jobs, no? Just curious :)

^^^ Does French ELLE pay the agencies for their models' work??? Traditionally, models don’t get paid for editorials work.

(Looks like a few days worth of shooting at most: One day in studio; one day on-location in the city; and one more day in the countryside.)

exactly! what would make a model dedicate a big chunk of her month to such a long unpaid ed? unless she didn't have materials before, which is not Aivita's case, so I'm pretty she got some money for it??

The Spécial Mode issues always look like three different shoots spliced together to make one long series.

And it's not necessarily new models doing it, Eva Herzigova did the A/W Spécial Mode in 2021, and she's not in need of name recognition (or money, you'd like to think).

But having looked through it, I'm not feeling like I need this issue (showing as 224 pages minus the regional supplement). I spent longer reading an article where "Mon mari voulait le polyamour. Il l'a regretté!" than I did looking at the fashion.

Also model Anna Ewers comes to mind in "Special Mode" February 2023 issue. She did it when she was already a big star with a big portfolio and not long before her disappearance.

The second cover is fantastic.
The ed is decent. Not really a fan of that angle for the 80s. It can quickly turn into a Hans Feuer territory.
