The Elle France tribute issue to Karl is surprisingly passable. Of course it's not perfect, and I think there are marked signs that it was pulled together in haste. What I've posted is not the full section because many of the images are small and the trivias scattered. There's also an interview with Ines.
The problem with paying tribute to Karl's career at Chanel is that it must come from the magazine's POV above all else. Otherwise the choices in looks, in muses, in covers just look random. And that's my problem with their tribute. There are Elle 4/5 covers from the vault with models wearing Chanel when I know for a fact this edition have more Chanel covers than most, the list of muses are shockingly incomplete, there was no accompanying editorial with Chanel only looks (here I get it, would have been too soon to pull something together.)
I'll keep my eye out for how other editors will deal with it as they'll naturally have more time. But I wouldn't say that the Elle France collectors issue is for Karl or fashion fans. It's for the busy woman who need to brush up on his career purely for superficial purposes like small talk at a dinner party.
