We are earnestly proud to present our first collaborative project with the eminent photographic duo Therese + Joel.
Therese Öhrvall and Joel Jägerroos met at Parsons Paris more than four years ago and have worked closely ever since. After another two years in New York their personal as well as professional relation evolved into something which only can be described as homogeneity in positive sense; they have knocked around ideas, taken the same classes, inspired and discussed different contexts, moments and feelings. Last spring they graduated from Parsons and decided to team up after difficulties to separate each other’s work. It was as alike as two peas in a pod.
When going through Therese and Joel’s series the feeling of watching film stills is ineluctable. Each photo is an alleviate moment, as if someone has pressed pause and you are allowed to take part of the scenery for a short while. At the same time you feel as an intruder, as someone who happened to enter at the most improper occasion ever. Their intention is not to reflect reality, which is accentuated by artificial lighting and their stylistic aesthetics inspired by film noir and nouvelle vague.
This is the first out of three stories which have been exclusively shot for S Magazine Blog. It is a New York homage to Helmut Newton, 90′s Madonna, David Lynch, the characteristics of Single White Female (1992) and Catherine Deneuve with a pinch of 1940′s melodrama.
Modelling and styling: Elsa Hosk and Elsa Crafoord.
