1. In 1957, Elvis was called up for military service. Along with other recruits, he arrives at a hospital in Memphis for medical examinations.
2. Elvis and other recruits wait to be processed at an induction station in Memphis.
3. Gladys Love Smith, Elvis' mother, sits next to her son on the couch at the induction station. They are accompanied by several of his women friends, identified by the photographer as movie starlets.
