Emanuel Ungaro S/S 10 Paris

There is only a few looks like like, and those are pretty much standard looks that could be on anyone's runway...
The heart motif was taken too far, and was only successful on a few looks.
They got what they wanted... press... too bad all of it calls the collection ****.
The styling is terrible, whoever was responsible should be fired...
I can't believe Lohan was put at the head of a major fashion house... that was basically a slap in the face to anybody who as designed ever.
And I loved Estaban, he designs far better than Lohan and the new designer any day.

A major WTF on my part.

I really disliked the styling for this collection, and the hearts on the foreheads. It's a shame, as there were a few pieces that I liked and could have had more potential, if they had been styled better.

I won't even waste my time telling how I feel about Lindsay at Ungaro...
The collection is very weak and uninspired... I only liked one dress, a white drapped one with black details.

The ruched leggings must have been Lohan's idea. Can't say I like those very much. Still, I like some of the looser fitting outfits.

Ok you can kill me for defending Lohan earlier. I give up. The collection is a fiasco.

well considering its made in 3 weeks its ok , i wont pass judgement because it was made in such a short time.

I think people should calm down and take a deep breath on this one. The past few years have been a constant downfall for the house and i believe this collection is not exception indeed. But comparing this to what Cortazar did during his time, I have to confess that Archs may have brought things to a positive side. Though it still stays below "acceptable" for a prestigious maison, I'm going to close my eyes on this one and waiting for the next season. I'll be putting hope in it because after seeing what Dundas made of Pucci this season i really think I should be more patient with Ungaro for the time being.

I guess that holding this show in Paris doesn't help it either. Besides getting overshadowed in matter of fractions of seconds by mighty experts of the business, being in Paris is just too much for a fragile brand as this; it's too much pressure and for the time being the stake of that place is just impossible to reach by a troubled house like this. Ungaro is not Balmain which made a brilliant thing seasons ago when it really needed something to shake things up and reason to be put again on fashion map. And thankfully to that it now just keeps getting sluttier and cheaper whenever it wants because it earned a kind of bulletproof vest, an harsh-criticism-cushion... which is a comodity that Ungaro doesn't have.

I think they really should redefine other areas of the business also to really keep things going, though I must admit that i find the "Lohan stunt" one of the funniest moves in fashion history of these past three years.
I believe the media is being a bit too harsh on them. The facts are these: the entire collection was pulled in less than one month; the house itself was already holding a bad reputation since its master's departure; and its creative designer is just a boho that's trying to get things right but still holds the boho status... what do you expect from an equation like that?
This is no worse than when Cortazar or Dundas were commanding the ship. It's no better either. It's just what it is and i agree with comments saying that rich girls will buy this. If they buy boring LV classics or Burberry lifeless checks (not speaking of runway shows for both cases of course), why not also buying Ungaro touched by a drunk celebutant?

Who in their right mind designs a full collection in 3 weeks time? How disrespectful to the legacy of Ungaro.

Indeed, as Hilary Alexander notes in her review for The Telegraph:

My heart goes out to Lindsay Lohan. Right now, she is getting a taste of just how brutal the fashion jungle can be when the claws are unsheathed... and it is not a pleasant experience. Judging from some of the comments I heard as I left the Ungaro show this afternoon, she can expect a savaging.

The collection she collaborated on with the Spanish designer, Estrella Archs, was hardly an unqualified success. How could it be when the pair, chiefly Archs, had only three weeks to pull it together? Ungaro himself, who founded his house in 1965, must be horrified at the arrogance of even thinking it could be done. He would have spent that time on a single piece. The best that can be said is that they tried.

There were some truly hideous fashion faux pas. Silver sequinned "pasties", for example, belong in a lap dancing club unless you subscribe to a Jordan-esque dress code. The dresses were too short. There was not enough jewellery and the cuffed, eastern-style trousers, bra-tops and boleros in jewel-tones hardly paid lip-service to Ungaro's lush exoticism.

But nor was it all bad. The tailored sequinned blazers had a hint of Studio 54 and the use of hot pink and draping at least hinted at the house's DNA and the shoes and bags were good. Over the next few months Archs and Lohan have a lot of hard work to do.

Lohan was visibly distressed as she took her bow and Archs was also close to tears. But this is now wasted. This is the emotion, passion and intensity they need to direct into the next collection.

"That was the hardest thing I've ever done," Lohan said after the show, as she and Archs almost disappeared beneath a tidal wave of papparazzi. As they say in the movies: "She ain't seen nothing yet." That was merely act one, scene one. And fashion, like life, is not a rehearsal. I hope Lohan and Archs are both strong enough to put the bad reviews behind them and put their heads and hearts into thew next performance. I wish them luck.

Okay, i can't believe that i even mentioned Versace in this thread :ninja:

There are some decent pieces in here (very few) but the rest, it just looks kinda well.........cheap (to say the least)

This is pretty bad in terms of coherence, but given the fact that they had to design within three weeks, it puts things into perspective.

The pieces are not that bad separately. Here at the fittings, they look much more appealing, no? Styled differently, without the tack, on the right woman, it looks nice.

I´m only going to say that the shoes where amazing!

It baffles my mind why Ungaro wants to be associated with a C-List celeb/party girl but anything to get the press talking about house again I guess. Of course it's not a complete hot mess considering this Archs woman is really the designer and not Lohan. I feel bad for the in house design team that they have to listen to Lohan for input/approval.

All I want to know is if Rachel Zoe was there and what did she truly think of this.

I feel bad for Estrella Archs with all the negativity but good on her for putting some sort of collection together in just 3 weeks.

Thanks, Filipe.
I almost feel bad for her.. seeing the collection in motion, it is tacky but it isn't any more vulgar or shorter (some critic said it was 'too short') than what Balmain delivered this week.. I know the construction here might not be on the same level but.. oh well.. I guess I just feel bad for her :(.. I think the fashion industry might be a lot more callous than she thought when she was the 'shopper'.
did the regular crowd (Wintour, Roitfeld, etc) attend the show?

I am starting to feel somewhat bad, the pieces aren't awful awful individually but as a whole it's a huge mess. Perhaps next season wont be as bad. Honestly if you removed a lot of the tacky hearts from things it wouldn't be so awful.

Either way I think Ungaro did exactly what they needed to do and drew attention to their house. Most of it is negative but hey there's no such thing as bad press right?
