April 3, 2008 – What's the connection between Japanese slasher flicks and Edgar Degas? Rodarte. The Mulleavy sisters' graphic show juxtaposed spiked shoes and bloodred dyes with the sort of full, lacy tutus seen in the French Impressionist's studies of ballet dancers. "Degas was a master at depicting movement," Kate Mulleavy says. Ballerina-ready tutus also took the stage at Alexander McQueen and Ralph Lauren this season. At Zac Posen and Comme des Garcons, meanwhile, the look was more Moulin Rouge (à la Henri Toulouse-Lautrec) than Giselle.
