I thought since we have many topics of artists inspired by this genius....we should really have one on the man himself! And we don't have too many composer threads either which is a shame, really. This particular composer has innovated so much in the way of layering, soundscapes and just pure ambience. Not to mention, incredibly intense. In fact, the sounds one hears from those artists such as Goldfrapp,Cocteau Twins,i monster,Björk and others can certainly be linked with this man.

My favourite piece is his "Gui' la Testa" and the more relaxing "Sauna",among many, many other's.

Oh I LOVE Morricone, particularly his scores for classic spaghetti westerns. The theme to A Gun For Ringo is perhaps my favorite, its such a lonesome and haunting tune. The Sacco and Vanzetti theme is also just an incredible musical feat. I am in awe each time I hear it.

A Heart Beats In Space is I another just astounding Morricone piece. I completely agree about his influence with regards to modern musical use of soundscape. That song could just as easily belong to M83 or Sigur Ros.

You know,I remember hearing so much his music when my dad watched those films when I was younger but it wasn't till I discovered Goldfrapp--of whom he had a direct influence on--that I really knew who he was. One of my favourite, most eerily intense sounds that he's done is that signature whistling. That and the operatics he incorporated, always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand.

 nice thread!

i'm allergic to westerns, but his music can make them worth while.
also, the scores to cinema paradiso & lolita '97... and so on...

^you and I both but I will watch to simply listen the scores. :)

those pieces are amazing too!
