Eryn Brinie Takes New York

October 7th, 2008 | New York

Topshop may have delayed its US debut, but another new import is ready to fill its cut-price ankle boots. Eryn Brinie, Korea's answer to chic on the cheap, recently opened its first US flagship location just steps away from Topshop's Soho storefront.

Infused with a self-proclaimed French sensibility, a press release likens the brand's aesthetic to "Rick Owens meets Alexander Wang meets Vena Cava." This idea translates into a fall collection notable for its lightness of touch, romantic detailing and ethereal color palette. Pieces like a tissue thin leather jacket with oversized lapels, a dramatically draped cotton candy colored skirt and a fringed black minidress are all housed in a space designed to double as an art gallery, performance space and party venue.

With more than 35 stores in Korea, Eryn Brinie is a veritable household name in the region. And, considering that most of its whimsical wares are under $150, it's only a matter of time before Topshop devotees are regularly dropping the Eryn Brinie name as well.

From what I see, it looks cool, but being able to get most items under $150 doesn't make you topshop. Yeah, topshop has raised it's prices, but you can still get most basics there for under $20USD. It seems more like Reiss or something....'high end' high street.

no..it's definitely nothing like reiss...not even close...
i went today...

it's definitely like a korean topshop...

very young and very trendy...
definitely with some basics in there as well...
good prices...fabrics so-so...
small sizing ( asian) it's all S, M, L ...

but very interesting cuts and shapes...
definitely a margiela meets rick owens meets chloe...etc...vibe....

ultrahip is what i would call it...
and a very sophisticated dusty colour palette...
i was suitable impressed...

the most expensive thing i saw was a crumpled leather moto jacket for just under $500
cute accessories...
shoes- chloe knock offs...

**the pics above kind of suck...
check the site under 'new in store'...:flower:

wow...looks cool... why don't we have things like this here!!!!...:P

rick owens meets margiela meets chloe...all for under $150....sounds great..

i'd love to be able to check it out...you're lucky to be in nyc softie.. though i'm sure you know that

sorry I should have been more clear - i meant like Reiss in terms of pricing only.

I like the sound of things but not the small fits

really???

reiss pricing in the US is OUTRAGEOUS!!!...
you should see!...

it's $600 for a bad quality dress with a weird fit in that store...
:judge:...

they have been a HUGE disappointment to me here...
:(...and i was SO excited for them to open too...

i stopped even going in there anymore...
cause i would just get really annoyed all the time!!!..

yes...i know you're right...

and if i ever forget....all i have to do is leave for awhile....
and then i am reminded just how lucky i am and how great nyc can be...
so it IS good to get away from time to time so you don't take it for granted too much...

:P

yes well importing items will do that. I imagine the same thing will happen with topshop. Reiss has gotten more expensive over the years and perhaps it's slightly more expensive than this place, but tops etc are about 80-100 USD. Dresses probably are around 180 - 200USD if you bought them in the UK.

yes- i know what you mean..

i had a conversation about that today...
i think a number of people (including me) think that topshop prices in the US are going to be more than people are used to at topshop...
not so sure how that is going to go really...

it all remains to be seen...:ermm:...

i wandered in randomly as solace from the rain and i was surprised at the customer service in the store (you'd think in nyc that everyone's going to be nice and accomodating, but sadly not... the salespeople offered to hold on to my bags/umbrella for me as i looked around!) and also surprised at the prices... i mean, for knock-off types, i expected mango prices, but this was way too expensive as in for another $100, i'd just buy the originals. more chloe/stella even philip lim than margiela, although there was a paperbag fabric type of thing. (which is more prada than rick)

Bumping this thread because the company recently launched an online store for US customers at www.erynbrinie.com.

If anyone has shopped there, I'd love to know what the quality is like.

i think the prices are in line with zara for the most part...
and the quality is the same...
maybe a bit higher..
but i like that it's a bit less common...
meaning that there are fewer stores so fewer chances of meeting up with someone who is wearing the same thing..
which makes a difference in my book...

when everyone starts to look the same i get a bit bored and annoyed...
:P

so i am a fan of this place...
