Everything Braids - tricks, tips, and pics

never thought it would be clear enough! so i'll give it a try again.
fish braids:
it is unbelievable difficult to do it over all the head. if you do a ponytail it's easier, good for practicing.. you divide the ponytail in two parts and then take a little bit from one side and gather it with the other, and so on. the more thin is the bit you take, the more intricate looks.

I like the softness of this one, along with the thick hair elastic.

The updo is rather extreme, but Lacroix managed to take the Barbie out of colored extensions by braiding them. There were blue, pink, red, and goldish extensions used, depending on the model's haircolor and dress. I'd like to try this with a softer hairstyle, perhaps a lower bun or a loose braid.

And how cute is Irina Lazareanu's braid here? The idea of attaching braids at the ends is great, though my hair is a bit too short for it at the moment.

^Forgot to mention that Irina's hairstyle was used at Alexis Mabille's Spring 09 Couture show.

Can anyone tell me how to do this hairstyle please,

I've tried doing braids by myself but it's so tiring! How do people do it? Especially at the back because I can't really see anything...
Would someone give me tips or instructions on how to do the above hairstyle and also tips on general braids because as you can see, I'm having some problems.. Thanks! :)

^It's two French braids down the part, but a Dutch braid would be easier to master for this hairstyle. A Dutch braid twists outwardly and a French braid inwardly, so the latter is trickier. Notice the difference:

It's very difficult to explain braiding in words or step-by-step illustrations, as it's a tactile, mobile technique you learn by watching and practicing. There are decent tutorials on Youtube, just type in "Braiding".

Style.com has a neat slideshow about the most memorable braids in pop culture. Here's a few of the pictures:

They also have a guide to making milkmaid braids, if anyone's interested.

I'm not good at all to braid my hair,, but I often have two really messy ones to get my bangs away. I'll try to take a picture!

Does anyone else whose left handed find it hard to do braids properly?

I use that as my excuse, that I am too cack handed but I should be good at them by now since having years of practice braiding manes but i was useless at it then too.

i did my hair in a kind of milkmaid braids-esque hair style for valentines day, i thought it looked quite cute and took about 5 minutes to do!
