    My personal favorite would be Gary Oldman's pimp in True Romance. Unlike his role in Leon, whose excesses I thought worked against the movie, I think this is just brilliant (Parental Advisory: explicit content).

    Hmmm, I'd say Olivia de Havilland as Melanie Wilkes in Gone With The Wind was incredible (though the entire cast are marvellous), also the cast of Hitchcock's Rebecca.

    ^because she was part of a year that generated so much hype for mainstream films....julia roberts in erin brokovich....crouching tiger...and chocolat was so huge that year. not to mention almost famous and that dreadful billy elliot. not even catherine deneuve was nominated for a supporting actress award.

    I still think David Thewlis' performance as the misogynistic, debauched rambling street philosopher in Mike Leigh's Naked is one of the most amazing performances I've witnessed
