I love merino wool, cashmere and pima cotton.

Silk. I wear a lot of it... like undergarments, ties, shirts (I have some socks as well lol) and a few robes : )

i love the jersey knits too (the sweatshirt material you mention)
when they are so worn that they become very soft and stretchy

i also like artificial linings
and a silk-cotton i found at school.. it's the thinnest fabric i've ever seen

i also the indigo-dyed fabrics made the Miao peoples in China

I wish chambray was more popular, it has the same neutral, casual effect as denim, but it feels softer against the skin. I've been thinking about fabrics and fabric techniques that have fallen out of favor, like hemp, velvet, and brocade. Hemp has never even been utilized to its full potential. About chambray:

Like its tougher cousin denim, chambray is also named after a French town. Chambray used to have a bit of a bad reputation as it was mostly used to make puffy denim shirts, sometimes with appliquéd roses and shoulder pads and to be worn with jeans for the god-awful "denim dream" look.

So those god-awful shoulder pads can make a comeback, but chambray is still out of the picture?!

At the moment I'm obsessed with:

silk tweed
washed organdy, charmeuse and gazar
neoprene
lacquered wool crepe
And Lanvin used this incredible linen/silk blend satin for the Resort collection that's gorgeous in person. It's got the softness of silk with the slight texture and sort of bouncy movement of linen.

^ The satin sounds quite interesting ... I'll have to take a look next time I'm in Barney's. (My recession style is to go there infrequently ) I quite like silk/linen in general because it removes a lot of the high maintenance of linen and has a lovely feel ... it may also be more breathable than silk, I'm not sure.

I'm not familiar with the lacquered wool crepe you mention, but it sounds interesting ... love wool crepe, it's great in a warm climate, very versatile.

I had a chambray skirt in the late 80s/early 90s that I just loved. I agree it's time for a comeback ... paging Marc Jacobs

Cashmere, Alpaca, Tweed and fur!!! I just cant get past the luxuary of these materials... hate when it's summer and I cant wrap up in them... just love their luxurious qualities!
