Okay, this may require a bit too much thinking about dates and stuff, but I was wondering, if you had to pick a favorite movie for each decade, what would they be?

For example:

30's: Gone With the Wind
40's: I have no idea
50's: Some Like It Hot
60's: The Gradute
70's: Rocky Horror Picture Show; Harold and Maude (toss-up)
80's: Labyrinth
90's: Dazed and Confused
00's: Almost Famous

Please share more!

Pandora's Box (borderline 30's)
Mildred Pierce
Funny Face
My Fair Lady
Fame (although it's '79)
I can't think of one
Elizabeth

There- that took me about a total of two seconds.

Just some of my favourites, for starters. Mildred Pierce, The Women ('39), Casablanca, To Have and Have Not, The Maltese Falcon, Key Largo, The Big Sleep, Shanghei Express, and- Bambi... :innocent: Alright, umm, basically anything with either Joan Crawford or Humphrey Bogart. I still need to see Adam's Rib though.

for forties..i'd highly recommend Notorious, Philadelphia Story, Bringing up Baby, Gilda, The Ghost and Mrs Muir, The Portrait of Jennie, Rebecca, and Laura...anything with Katharine Hepburn or Irene Dunne...the Thin Man movies are great too.

The Thin Man definately! And, for fashion people like us they're especially good. Since they go to bed fully and properly clothed in the movies, Myrna Loy's always outfitted in these full sleeved, exceedingly fancy dressing gowns. Hilarious too... Notorious of course is awesome, but I personally really disliked Bringing Up Baby. It seriously just kept stretching on and on and gave me the most awful headache. Gilda is very cool too, I developed a slight crush on Glenn Ford after seeing it. Another good one is the Blackboard Jungle with him in it, by the way.

We very badly need a movie section here.

Great topic!

50s: Singin' In The Rain
70s: Chinatown
80s: Blue Velvet
90s: Pulp Fiction
00s (so far:( Lost In Translation

More to come...

I'm not sure for choices in the 1900's, 1920's, 30's, 40's and 60's.

I recommend for the 1940's: His Girl Friday, The Red Shoes (the movie which was also the inspiration for Viktor and Rolf), Day of Wrath, The Shop Around the Corner (which modern re-made was You've Got Mail) and any Tourneur film. Also, the choices given here so far are good.

40s ahhh so many:cover girl, easter parade - any musical in fact
50s sabrina, gigi
