what are everyone's favorite stores in NYC?

why do you shop there?

what atmosphere do they have?

what is their core clientel?

what makes them unique to you?

what brands do they carry?

i just thought this would be an interesting topic to see why people shop where they do... to see what draws a consumer to a store... whether it be brands, exclusivity, or the atmosphere/sales reps.

alife rivington club ( i love sneakers.... they have everything.)
turntable lab ( not really a clothing shop, but sell cool music, krink paint , t's , mags... etc.)
henri bendel ( they have good selection )
filthmart- (used rocknroll clothes located in a dump that blasts the who and stones, and make sexxy low riding jeans much cooler than juicy, run by very helpful rockers, that press any iron on you wish, plus tailor your jeans to fit like a rocker)

Those stores sound awesome, but how are their prices? I'm making a list of places to go when I next visit NYC, but I'm on a budget.

And the Prada on B'Way is amazing. Its right next to my agency, I see it allllll the time. And I just like to stand a stare, kind of like Breakfast at Tiffany's, only not as chic.

hi, eloes.

the shops i mentioned can get expensive. although filthmart is quite cheap, sinse its a second hand shop. the jeans and concert tees are the most expensive items. jeans are about $ 140 usd. turntablelab is a music shop, they have graphic tees that run around 20 bucks, but everything they carry is pretty cool. those are cheap shops so you can have fun w/out dropping g's :flower:

Please guys, don't talk to much about Filthmart. I'd like to keep it secret

NY
CHELSEA:
Camouflage (for men)
Comme des Garçons & Balenciaga (too expensive but worth checking out)
Jeffreys & Stella McCartney in Meat Packing District

EAST VILLAGE:
Air Market (japanese stuff)
Kiehl's
Urban Outfitters

NOLITA:
DDCLab + other shops in Orchard St

UPPER
Barneys of course

New York :

-Jeffery's: They have the most fantastic things. They are one of the few places that carries an avant-garde collection of men's clothing and shoes. They take risk with their merchandise, and I love it.

-Barney's: Its as classic as a Chanel suit. It is impossible for me to go into Barney's and not walk out with at least a few things.

-Bodum: I love buying housewears I am never going to use here. THey have a whole lot of really adorable kitchen accesories etc. Adore their travel coffe cup things.

-Marc Jacobs accesories store: Even though they don't always have the best selection of the more popular styles (suprisingly), the clean lines and laid back atmosphere down there is fantastic. The girls in the shop (especially Kristen and Elizebeth) are the some of the best salespeople in the City, sweet, but not too sweet, they work their ***es off to find you something that is impossible to find. Also, if you are a good enough customer they will bump you to the top of a waiting list for something very hard to get.

I may edit this post to add more later, but those are most of my favs. Used to love Scoop, but now I realize their collection is just average. It is more convenient to my pied-a-terre than Barney's Co-Op, but the cab ride is soo worth it to go a little further down town as you really cant compare the selection.
