We always go on about how much we love or hate the collections being shown but what about the way they are presented?
It sometimes seems hard to cancel out the excitement a show creates in you to concentrate on the merit of the craftmenship; a show can be so good that it actually makes you think the clothes are better than they are.
What is your favourite fashion show or presentation?
And why is it?
It could be the styling, the makeup, the "fierceness", the music or even the editing of the video (hello Lanvin). Just tell me which ones and why!

One of my favourites has to be..
Christian Dior Fall/Winter 2003-2004

Why?
It's just the epitome of a fashion show - outright decadent brashness, the sort of show non-fashion-goers would be scoffing at and making such comments as "Who would ever wear that?!".
The music! That opening! (even if it is just for the video.. I don't know?) The confidence of the models. It's just so camply dramatic that it's incredible.

You go.

Mine are John Galliano S/S 08

this was such a fun a beautifully crafted show...so much work went into creating this and it shows...I love the Edie Beale reference and the models had so much character especially the dresses at the end, and Natasha was perfect for closing the show.

Alexander McQueen S/S 2007

McQueen really knows how to create a mood and this show I definitely felt like I was there even though I wasnt. the ending with Tanya and the flowers falling off her was magical. One of my favorite shows from him

Alexander McQueen F/W 2009

I loved the whole recycling idea and using ideas from previous collections, and I also appreciated the fact he stuck to his roots even though the recetion was in its prime that season while others were playing it safe...this video doesnt show but if you see the original the soundtrack is the death sound of when you no longer have a pulse in the hospital (i dont know the machine name) which I thought was super eerie after watchin it

Balenciaga F/W 08

I just love the fact my mom was so in love with the LBDs from this collection

Jil Sander S/S 2009

such an amazing soundtrack as usual, and the clothes were so sexy but also very strong and classy at the same time. One of the shows I can watch overr and over

i have many more lol it was so hard t choose

John Galliano S/S 08 It is the first show which comes to my mind. It was really beautiful and fun. Love this show

My favorute shows are

John Galliano Spring 2003

and Alexander McQueen Fall 2004

and Junya Watanabe Fall 2008

My ultimate favourite is
Hussein Chalayan S/S 1998 Between

I love narratives and there's plenty of it in this collection. His collections (from the past and the current ones) are full of cultural dialogues, hidden metaphors and references. I love the way he started with an almost naked model and continued by extending the lenght of the burkas as if it was a journey back to the roots, finding your own identity and discovering who we really are. He truely is an unique designer with his own remarkable point of view.

Here are some of my favorite ones...

John Galliano Fall Winter 2008/09 Menswear
I love how he makes it so messy and pirate-like

Prada Fall Winter 2008/09 Menswear
I saw some very new and original pieces on this collection and I was in love...

all the presentations from jurgi persoons. he did those superb static/installation presentations that always made you feel like you were on the set of some sort of surreal sci-fi b-film from the fifties and sixties. no one has ever matched his knack transporting one in the most subtle of ways. he was also the first of his kind of employ this method of showing alternatively.

also,i too vote for any early show from chalayan. he stopped you dead in one's tracks and made you pay attention.

miguel adrover also put on some memorable shows at his height. they were catwalks but he really utilised them in his own quirky way.

No one puts on a show like John Galliano, Alexander Mcqueen, Karl Lagerfeld and Yohji Yamamoto

They are not only masters of design, but marketing geniuses!!

And probably my most favorite of all is the Alexander McQueen F/W 03.04 show. The clothes were amazing and Ai Tominaga at the end was breathtaking.

OMG - Are so many collections (Chanel, Dior, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy and more)
But I was very impressed with two collections

Nina Ricci - F/W 09.10 - So simple and STRONG, very strong.

Chanel - HC F/W 06.07 - "Jeans in Haute Couture" Karl is the best

Part 1 and Part 2

And in this moment i'm very impressed with the work of Roberto Rimondi and Tommaso Aquilano for Gianfranco Ferré.

Prada Fall 2009

The anger, the music, the mood is really great and the ending.

John Galliano Spring 2008

It's just a really great show. :P

Nina Ricci Spring 2009

The Beautiful Victorian. Great set with beautful hair and makeup + the music was just so serene.
I miss Olivier.:heart::cry:

Probably most of the shows of John Galliano and Alexander McQueen for both their label and Dior and Givenchy ....
They pretty reinvent the presentations of Fashion Shows in the mid 1990s ...

For instance :
John Galliano 1995 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG2j7vbt1Nw
Alexander McQueen Best Of : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st16Z2MujmU&feature=related

YSL Fall 2008, by Pilati ... Looove :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3uuJogofEY

Oh and Olivier Theyskens' debut collections, in the late 90s-early 00s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loxHq6TCXks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHZ4-j3V5CA

And a show by DVN, too ... It was red lighting, the girls walking in a sort of "black-trees-forest" (though in a very high ceiling architecture)

and so on

The one thing I loved more then the older Dior pieces were the panelled runway, themselves!

The stop, turn and pose Gucci runways.

Yves Saint Laurent, not what it use to be.

I think that's it..for now. Clearly I'm too stuck in the past. All photos: Style.com

I love a good fashion show. When all the production elements come together perfectly, it takes a collection and turns it into an experience.

Some favorites:

Nina Ricci Fall/Winter 2009
A true testament to the effect a show can have on a collection. At first, I absolutely hated this collection. But after watching the video, I had a complete change of heart. The pitch black setting, with only the glittering runway lit, created the effect of a black night luminated only by shimmering reflections on wet pavement. And the music was incredibly evocative...starting off extremely aggresive and then melting into that gorgeously sensitive Max Richter piece. I now adore this collection, thanks to the show.

Prada Fall/Winter 2007
One of the strangest collections and shows I can recall. It is also one of the most appealing collections and shows I can recall. The casting was excellent and something about having a smaller group of girls do the show, each with three or four exits, was a subtle, yet effective concept. And then that gorgeous oilslick catwalk. But the strongest and most compelling aspect of the production was the music. The exclusively Blacken the Black soundtrack was so unsettling and yet so mesmerizing, I can never get enough of it.

Balenciaga Spring/Summer 2009
One of the most genius fashion show productions of all time. I mean, the conecpt of changing the colors of the clothes with light from overhead as the girl walked the runway is so powerful. The effect was breaktaking.
(Unfortunately, the audio in the video has been disabled.)

Dior Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2003
One of Galliano's best, most memorable shows for the house of Dior. From the pulsating lights, to the superb casting of diva models, to the beyond infectuous soundtrack, every element of the production was so sexy, so powerful, so romantic and so energetic. I never get tired of this show.

There are many more, but these are just a few that came to mind at the moment.

Givenchy Haute-Couture, by Alxander McQueen, FW 1997-1998

Everything is just great ...
I wish the new models could work catwalks this way ...
