Thanks! It's a bit odd she moved to LA, no?She's moved in LA at the beginning of March.
vogue.comSwedes, who are light-deprived during the long, dark Nordic winters, take sunlight very seriously: never more so than when celebrating tomorrow’s summer solstice (aka the longest day of the year), a magical holiday of traditional food (herring, aquavit), song, and dance (around a verdant maypole). “Midsommar is so special and very close to my heart,” says Revlon’s artistic director Gucci Westman, who grew up in Sweden and remembers sleeping with seven flowers under her pillow hoping to dream of her future husband, which is a beloved Midsummer custom. Another is the wearing of flower wreaths, called midsommarkrans. “Wearing the crown makes you feel incredibly feminine and nostalgic,” Westman comments.
The making of these crowns, using a bit of string, birch, and field flowers, is something that Swedes like Westman and Ingrid Carozzi, a graphic designer turned florist and creative director of Tin Can Studios in Red Hook, Brooklyn—who made Frida Gustavsson’s crown (above, and who did the demonstration here)—grow up knowing how to do. Carozzi said she wanted to create a wreath that was genuine, but not cliché.
