Fur Fur designer Sachiko Taguchi opted out of a runway show this season in favor of a presentation that was full of romantic trappings. The models, assembled on a stage, were dripping in voluminous layers of lace and ruffles, which was often gathered in cascades on the shoulder or used to form a type of bustle at the back. Artfully arranged mounds of tulle and flowers adorned their heads.

echoes of tao kurihara for comme and also tricot *which she designs...

^ its completely the essence of tao...good call.
aline fit
pleated ruffles, tight and loosely grouped
coquetteish, proper but provocative
sweet mary-jane flats
its the garden of earthly delights, the headpieces are so mind boggling...

in the japanese underground scene there has been a world called ankoku butoh.
it was a great influence on art, literature, film, etc, especially in the 60's - 70's.
rei kawakubo was a young independent designer with ambition in that atmosphere, and should have inhaled the air of the era.
I think butoh was to influence even today's fashion.

that's very enlightening runner!

the reference is instantly recognizable and undeniable...
i love it when you share the japanese perspective on such things because it makes the experience of these clothes much richer for someone like me as an outsider, who has no knowledge of this cultural movement in japan...

*though somehow 'butoh' sounds familiar to me...
maybe we have talked about it here at another time?...
or maybe i read about it somewhere---
though i seem to remember actually hearing the word- so maybe it was on some television program...

in any case- it is wonderful so see and know where the inflluences of this collection came from...

and i also see rei's work in that image, of course...

i agree-
it does seem that we are seeing several younger japanese designers exploring this sort of aesthetic, this season especially

hmm I don't remember our talking about it. all I can guess is that you might have seen some images of another butoh dancer and some descriptions on that photographer's site you liked ??

strictly speaking, kazuo got some tremendous inspiration from antonia merce y luque ( aka la argentina ).
so, to be fair, some of the credit should go to her as well.

flamenco!!!...

flamenco dancers are another longtime favourite of mine!!!...

very cool...
arigato runner~!

I sort of see tao's billowy sleeve in the skirts lol.

i know what you mean...
it's a similar design vocabulary...

but i think this is reworked and special enough to stand on its own without feeling like anything is being copied exactly...
you know?...
for example- i like that bottom layer coming out of the bottom of the skirts...
that handkerchief hem give it a whole other layer and gives it some edge that a lot of tao's stuff might not have...

*i do remember that tao did a whole handkerchief collection- but she used real handkerchiefs to make tailored pieces...
this is a different interpretation, even though the basic inspiration could be the same...

I think I failed to make what I meant by the lol at the end understood.
I didn't mean to be serious.
and also, to make it clear, I referred to the skirts on antonia merce y luque.
from the context where it's just after the post saying you like flamenco.

or I may be failing to get what you are talking about in #16.

off topic though, for example things like these

thanks for the images from that tao collection runner...

i understood immediately that these were the looks that you were thinking of...
*because they were my fave looks from that collection and in fact, some of my favourite designs and runway looks of all time...
so i remember them well...
:p

i got that you were not being completely serious...;)
though i didn't realize you meant the flamenco skirt---(i definitely see that now!...)
i just couldn't help taking the idea a little bit further because this particular collection reminds me of several of tao's collections all put together...
suddenly i remembered about the handkerchiefs... and then there is also the ruffled cape collection...
so i guess i was just thinking out loud...
sorry if it was confusing...
...
and thank you for clarifying which image you were referring to...!

on another note-
i have a feeling that this will quickly become another of my top favourite collections...
every time i come back to this thread i am completely thrilled all over again...
and now that you added the tao pics to the thread...
i think it's even better!...
...:D...

domo arigatone!...
^_^...
