Gemma Ward's back and Mad for Sydney
ELUSIVE former supermodel Gemma Ward has quietly slipped back into Sydney after more than 18 months abroad to audition for the latest Mad Max blockbuster.

At one time Australia's most successful runway star, with more than 30 international and local Vogue covers to her credit, Confidential can reveal the wide-eyed stunner has been flying under the radar in Sydney for more than a week.

She is here to try her luck at a part in George Miller's Mad Max 4: Fury Road.

The Perth-born beauty shunned the limelight following the death of ex-boyfriend Heath Ledger in her adopted home of New York and has rarely been seen since his funeral.

Ward, on a break from drama studies at Yale University, was seen drinking wine at Bondi's Thru The Grapevine on Saturday night with Big Apple roommate Jessica Gomez, also a model, and is believed to be staying in the Eastern Suburbs.

"She looks really good," our source said.

Well-placed film sources yesterday maintained the AFI-winner, who was critically acclaimed for her feature film debut Black Balloon, is riding on the success on being cast in the fourth instalment of Pirates Of The Caribbean.

"She's definitely back for [Mad Max]," said the source.

"She's working on a few things. Acting is her focus."

Ward's local management company would not comment on their client's movements but are understood to have been bombarded with expressions of interest to interview her.

Ward has not spoken publicly since early 2008.

Don't know anything about Mad Max, I guess here's where Google comes in...
this is so exciting, finally a progress after months of waiting
