Gemma Ward

No Gemma but the show already opened when I started watching. With that terrible styling, I think it was ok that she wasn´t there :innocent:

^thanks for this, I've never seen it before^_^..

She looks absolutely beautiful there but I don't think that was taken in 2003:unsure:.. It looks more like Gemma circa 2006:P

She had shorter hair and a fringe when she first started I think so they must be from when she was around 17/18 I'd say!

But wow. Queen Gemma.

is that even her hair? she's blonde and this doesn't look blonde to me. I'd thought it's photoshopped.

I think it's either extremely photoshopped to look like that or it's a wig because Gemma is indeed blonde and that colour reminds me of a mouse's fur.

Maybe they were going for a sort of librarian 'I don't care about hair but it's Prada so I'm still chic' kind of vibe hahah.

^Plus I think it's heavily overly hair-sprayed, it makes sense since it's Prada.

It's so wonderful to see her in the campaign, though.

I've long been of the opinion that Gemma can pull off any hair colour, even mouse fur lol, but I haven't liked what Prada's been doing with styling lately anyway.

she's a doll, no matter the hair, that's a given... I wish her skin didn't look so rubbery because of PS :(

Head on over to Unknowntoicon on Instagram! It's Gemma week and they're posting new pictures from past shoots and covers all with a little comment from Gemma with each one! IMG also confirmed that the comments are very recent! I didn't think I should post them because they're all previous images that have been posted I'm sure but I'll post the comments along with the name of the cover/ed so you can check it out if you want to see them.

On the heels of her Prada runway debut in Milan (and her first-ever prêt-à-porter show!), Ward appeared on the Oct. 2, 2003 cover of WWD--the industry’s choice daily trade publication.

In her own words: "The casting process was pretty intense. I was very nervous about the show and watched as many girls got cut backstage, or broke under pressure and went home!"

Poster Child of Chic!
Gemma Ward | @Prada, c. 2003 | Steven Meisel
Within a few weeks of her first-ever runway experience, Steven Meisel photographed Ward for a series of advertising campaigns for the Italian luxury goods company.

In her own words: "The shoot was a dream, lots of waiting around and then shooting quite quickly. I got to know Daria on the shoot and made friends in a lonely time of my life staying in New York hotels with my mum and then by myself before Christmas.
I remember just loving the clothes, but crying when they tried to cut a fringe on me--I had one my whole life as a little girl and I had fought to grow my hair out just recently!"

Romance Returns!
Gemma Ward | @Wmag, April 2004 | Paolo Roversi "From New York to Paris,” the cover line read, “the Fashion World has a New Infatuation.” Sixteen-year-old Ward appeared on the April 2004 cover of W magazine, a shocking move for the celebrity-driven publication.

In her own words: "This was a dream shoot with Paolo Roversi in New York, who I had usually worked with in Paris and had done some of my favourite shoots with.
He is a very romantic photographer, his shots are always so touching.
I had a lot of fun with the hair on this shoot. I had an afro for an Emilio Pucci (I believe back when he was the designer) Haute Couture show where I was the bride and I think they got the inspiration from there."

Gemma Ward | @Voguemagazine, September 2004 | Steven Meisel | @PatMcGrathReal | @GuidoPalau

Ward co-starred on the 2004 cover of the all-important September issue of Vogue, the youngest of the magazine’s “Models of the Moment” all-star lineup, which included Gisele, Daria Werbowy, and Liya Kebede.

In her own words: "What a dream! I think one girl was cut from this story as well, which was a bit sad. I was astonished to be included amongst these girls Gisele, Daria, Natalia, and Karen. I remember Karen being really fun on this shoot, and also Karolina Kurkova was dating Pharrell at the time. If I remember correctly, she was making an album or something at the time? So @PatMcGrathReal and @GuidoPalau kept making her sing on set which was really funny as she has a big personality!

A beautiful set, a wonderful shoot, mesmerising to be around those girls and overhearing their conversations!
Haha."

Swan Song.
Gemma Ward | Yves Saint Laurent by @TomFord, c. 2004 | Craig McDean
Ward starred in the last advertising campaigns for Tom Ford’s Yves Saint Laurent.

In her own words: "The last one Tom Ford designed and was handing over the reigns to Stefano Pilati I remember being really jet lagged and almost falling asleep on the bed they had on set!! That’s probably why I look a little stiff- that jet lag from Australia is a killer!

I stayed at the Chateau Marmont and me and my dad walked all over LA for hours just to see the Hollywood sign. I loved meeting Tom and having Stefano on the set as well, as my dad asked everyone on set very personal questions. I was so embarrassed! Haha.

I also loved working with Craig McDean and Carine Roitfeld on this shoot, as the images were so strong from them and they were very welcoming. I remember Carine telling me that no one could fit into the clothes I had worn on the runway!"

The New Chelsea Girl.
Gemma Ward | Burberry, c. 2005 | @MarioTestino

In her own words: "This was the first shoot I did where I met Kate...Moss that is. She was awesome, and I got to see how close she was with Mario after basically shooting their entire lives together. I loved seeing their rapport, and how much fun they had trading stories over the years.
She had recently traveled to China with her daughter and loved it, and coincidentally, I had just come back from there as well, so we talked about how much we liked the place "

Night Swimming.
Gemma Ward | Calvin Klein, c. 2005 | @Mario_Sorrenti_2

In an exciting move, a sixteen-year-old Ward followed the footsteps of the brand’s previous campaign model Kate Moss in this scintillating ad.

In her own words: "We shot in the same pool where some scenes from Titanic ("Never let go, Jack!") were filmed on the border of the US in Mexico. That was interesting!
I loved shooting with @Mario_Sorrenti_2 always, as he makes the girls feel sexy!

The male models were really sweet on the shoot also, and I just remember feeling like my career was taking off in a way I hadn’t expected."

The Queen!
Gemma Ward | @WorldMcQueen, c. 2004
In her own words: "The McQueen shows were always out of this world. I think I was consistently blown away by the craftsmanship and the theatricality behind the shows. This was the infamous "Chess Show" where I got to play a Queen quite splendidly. I had so much fun! The bird cage took quite a bit to get in the hair though!
Again, the craftsmanship of Phillip Treacy’s hat creations was astounding. McQueen was always very nervous before his shows and would offer the girls champagne, he was divine. Such an electric person. I always wanted to hug him before the show, but he was always buzzing around like a bee! We would all tell him backstage what a genius he was!"

Beauty's where you find it...VOGUE!

Gemma Ward | @Voguemagazine covers 2004-2014 | Meisel, Roversi, et al.
In her own words: "Wow. I was so young...I didn't know some these went out! The Vogue Italia cover was a dream come true, especially with the dancing theme. I loved ballet and drama growing up, and I just really enjoyed shooting theatrically those few days.
The peach came from my bag-I remember Steven wanting a peach as a prop and everyone was rushing around trying to find one from catering. I had one in my bag because I always carry a piece of fruit with me. Hahhaha. But that made the cover, and really, it’s my favourite!"

@Balenciaga, Baby!
Gemma Ward | @NicolasGhesquiereOfficial, c. 2004 | David Sims

In her own words: "David is great at action photos and these were really fun! I was exhausted from jumping all day on these razor thin shoes which were literally like ice skates. I think the joke was that they were really hard shoes to walk in so they had us jump in them all day-we walked on them like nothing by the end of the day!"

Like a Virgin!
Gemma Ward | @Voguemagazine, Nov. 2005 | @MarioTestino
In her own words: "Josh Hartnett was an absolute gentleman. He was dating Scarlett Johansson at the time and showed us some lovely photos of their recent European vacation. He had a good eye for photos.
My sister was in Portofino with us on this shoot, and Mario kept telling me how much taller and skinnier she was than me! We cut a mean figure together walking the streets of Portofino. We then had a bunch of fun with Josh and the crew playing that heads game where you put a character on a piece of paper and tape it to each others heads and guess who you are. Fun times!"

A Master's Subject.
Gemma Ward | @Voguemagazine, March 2006 | Irving Penn

In her own words: "This Irving Penn shoot with the Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière clothes was incredible. This collection, including the couture knit gown, was astounding and working with Penn was eye-opening.
I believe he used film and had a very exact process. In meeting with him to see if he wants to work with you, he would check your hands and then on the set if he did not 'believe' where I had put my hands he wouldn’t shoot! It really made me see a different side of shooting and shooting for the truth of an expression.
I really loved hearing his tales of shooting from his younger days. He told me a story of meeting Cristobal Balenciaga and how he made them use the freight elevator when they came to Paris to shoot the collections! What a snub!"

The New White Ranger.
Gemma Ward | @VogueItalia, c. 2006 | Steven Meisel
In her own words: "The 'Amish Robot' shoot was really fun. We shot at the Chateau Marmont and I remember Steven calling down to Courtney Love from our balcony. Such fun few days at the hotel. Steven had me and @RealSashaPivovavora stand next to each other as we had similar faces. The image of us standing there like sisters was a wonderful result!”

Sunday in the Park with Gemma.
Gemma Ward | @Voguemagazine, Aug. 2006 | Arthur Elgort
In her own words: “Arthur Elgort, who is the very definition of a gentleman, shot this story with Grace Coddington in New Orleans. It was amazing! I loved the big trees and the French Quarter…I think Arthur loved the restaurants! I remember feeling like the entire trip was a food destination because we ate a lot!"

all unknowntoicon on Instagram, again, head there for the images but they're all old covers/eds. ^_^
