Gemma Ward

Aww back in those days... :crush: Thanks for the ad, it just reminded me why she will always be my first-model-crush :blush:

I know this may sound kind of late since the movie was released earlier this year in the US and most of you must've already seen the movie by now but I seriously cannot believe that you almost couldn't see Gemma's face at all in The Strangers! I just watched it today since it just got released a few weeks back in my country and I didn't even noticed it being released in the cinemas until I went out today to the mall. Wasn't my first choice but after my friends decided against watching Wall-E and there were no other good movies out there, we decided to watch The Strangers after I remembered that Gemma was in the movie and felt excited after that. However after watching the movie, I can't say good things about it really. The pace of the movie was pretty much slow and the scary parts were repetitive to the point of almost being boring. I did manage to be surprised in some parts of the movie but all in all I wouldn't recommended to anyone who hasn't watched it. Anyway, I was anticipating Gemma's face up until the end of the movie but I was seriously irked that they didn't even show her face (properly) at all until the end. Ughh.... I mean, I wanted to watch that movie because of Gemma's appearance but they only showed her in a mask all the time. The only part you could see her face a bit was when she banged on the door for the first several times and asked about some Tamara person. Ughh...what a waste of her beautiful face! Thank god they managed to show her beautiful tall and lanky body in the end when she asked for those pamphlets from those boys before leaving. Love her body!

Anyway I do hope that if she really wants to pursue a career in acting, she can manage to get good roles that would challenge her acting abilities. The Stranger didn't really show much of her talent but I heard that The Black Balloon was widely praised. All the best to her anyway in regards to her future and hopefully she'll receive worldwide recognition someday for her work as a model!

i agree with IrvingLorenzo, i watched the movie because of Gemma but there was even no her face. this is frustrating, and the movie itself is so banal
it was a big fat waste of Gemma

^ was she even meant to be a main character though? i haven't seen it yet but want to.

I don't know, I kind of liked the fact that she was hidden behind a mask, she's universally known for her image/face it just kind of made more sense (in my opinion), given the type of movie it was.

Well, I would consider her to be a main character in that movie because of the fact that she got top billing (well not really top) but her name came third after Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman during the credits (but yeah, there weren't a lot of characters to begin with in that movie), she had the most lines compared to the other 2 intruders, she had more screen time than the other 2 intruders and I personally thought that she had to flex her acting chops more than the other 2 intruders.

Anyway, the intruders did unmask themselves in the end so they could have at least shown their faces to the audiences too but I guess its suppose to be a mystery to us on who the intruders are really (I don't even know how the other 2 look like at all!). Oh well, maybe next time for better Gemma screen time.

I can just say if you want to see Gemma and also want to see a good movie. Turn to the dark side of The Black Balloon.

I think that Gemma did a very wise thing choosing a movie like that. She's known for her face all over the world, then choosing a movie where she's not showing her face, is very cool I think. That make people look at her acting skills instead of her beautiful face.

acting skills? what acting skills can be necessary for a role like this? anybody can act it
plus nobody knows her or her face in hollywood

I haven't seen the movie, and I don't intend to do, so I thought she actually DID act in the movie. My apologies.

She did a nice job on the dialogues though! It was definitely acting but without any expressions or special scenes from her side. Liv Tyler and the gyu were the victims and Gemma was the cool masked killer so no wonder she doesn't get an Oscar with that movie

And that's exactly why she took it :flower:. It's not a star-making role -- which would be a bit too much to ask for an actor who's a beginner just starting out. But it's a role that gets her known by a recognisable director (at least in Hollywood) and decent stars (Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler) and a decent addition to her resume. Certainly less embarrassing than things like soap operas and tv sitcoms...and look where folks like Kelly Rippa and George Clooney are! At this point in her career, if she's focused on being an actress rather than a starlet, it's more important to get her noticed in LA circles first rather than by audiences. Especially since she doesn't have a mainstream look.

Also people tend to be pretty dismissive of the skills required for bit parts like this until they're actually on a set. She may not have a lot of dialogue but she probably had to pay close attention to her body language.

Anyway, it's nice to hear that she's still keeping her options open with modeling!:clap:

^ Well said. Hollywood tends to have a very narrow approach to beauty and Gemma has had a LOT of experience when dealing with people in the fashion industry so she probably knows what she needs to do to find her way through those LA circles to make her way to the top. I have faith in her because after all, this was how she started out modeling as well way back when she was booted from a modeling competition...it's only a matter of time.

i read Gemma's cover story article. good to hear she hasn't called it quits ^_^ being a model and an actress is like having the best of both worlds. being a model can help her acting career & vice versa ^_^
