Downgrade? How can filming with Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz and Geoffrey Rush be a possible downgrade?

It might not be a huge role or give her the instant fame or rise back to the top (modelling or acting) but if filming with such a cast doesn't open possibilities, I don't know what does. (I'm calling Gemma Arterton as a Bond-girl as example)

This is NOOOO downgrade, I mean sure The Black Balloon was a little more independent and down-to-earth but if an opportunity came up to be in a MASSIVE blockbuster like this starring alongside actors like the ones in POTC you'd be CRAZY to turn it down, in fact whoever Gemma's agent is would've probably dropped her if she'd turned something like that down
and I'm speaking as someone in the industry

No, I'm saying this because The Black Balloon is a film of high quality. The Pirates films are not. I would rather see her in independent films. Besides, they should've just left it at the first one, but nooo...boring, unoriginal Hollywood had to crap out the sequels. No wonder Keira Knightley didn't return. She's doing better better things. If only Johnny Depp did the same, rather than playing the same quirky character over and over again. But as people have said, you have to work your way up. Maybe Ward will be in Knightley's position one day. I'm happy she's 'back' and we get to see more of her.

Aussie Gemma Ward cast in new Pirates of the Caribbean

Australian model-turned-actress Gemma Ward has signed on for a role in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The newest instalment in the blockbuster franchise starts filming in Hawaii this week. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have jumped ship this time around, but Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz and Geoffrey Rush are still on board. Gemma will play a mermaid and has a small speaking part. She doesn’t shoot her scenes until August, but she’s spent the last year studying acting full-time in New York. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is scheduled to be released next May in time for the US Summer blockbuster season.

Pirates are my favorites but I'm agreed.. somehow.. I'm just happy for her. I guess this great change for her, can't wait to see result
