Update guys!
I initially only heard about this show because of Alexander Skarsgard and the promise of topless + military uniform ASkars...
But I watched this entire mini-series (all 7 episodes) in one go last night, it WAS JUST THAT GOOD!!!!!
Absolutely amazing series, every single actor is fantastic and so nuanced, my favourites were particularly Brad Colbert (Skarsgard) and Nathaniel Fick (Stark Sands), but because its an ensemble cast every character is so unique, compelling and really just so complex and interesting.
It was just so insightful about the life of US Marines (something that I had absolutely no interest in prior to this) and the psychology of battle conditions, the team dynamics. I think this is all just so pertinent given the hot political issue that is US involvement in the Middle East. I loved that it was such a unique and different perspective - and one that most marines and critics say is extremely true to life. I also loved though, its subtleties, that it didn't push a pro or anti war agenda one way or another, and the politics were daubed very lightly.
This is probably one of the most intelligent, interesting and moving show I've watched in a good while, scriptwise, characterisation, direction - its all pretty flawless. Plus, there is ALOT of eyecandy

Seriously, I loved this so much I actually went out and got the book...and I'm also looking for Fick's memoir as well..i'm such a fan now.
