gift idea for dad ...

oh gawd, i wish i knew myself..
i have this issue every year and on his bday..
specially when he thinks gifts are a waste
last year i got him digital photo printer and for the first time he loved a gift and is actually using it... :bounce:

does he care for nice shoes?
ive decided i will get my dad a nice pair of chic cotemporary shoes and maybe some dior homme trainers (my dad is 70)!!

oh and he seems to like a bit of pampering so maybe a massage ?

leyla tht reminds me . .
for his birthday this yr i got him one of those digital photo frames
& he loves it

oh i just saw those digital photo frames yesterday....
v cool...
my dad is not really the technology type though :ermm:

this thread is great...
i was thinking of a new leather wallet this yr... just noticed today that the one he has is going through a bit of a battle....
seems a bit dull though.... why are men so hard to buy for!!!!!

he loves books....i'd love to get him something great, but he's very fussy...

he loves golf :ninja: but i dont want to encourage that any more !

well- i found a beautiful brown leather wallet this afternoon so i snapped it up :woot:
and also happened to find a 5-disc box set of his fave music

i got my dad some dressy leather gloves, as per his request.

tht's why the frames are so great adore!
just slot the card in . . . & voila! :magic:

As an ex-ballet dancer now photographer - mine's just a little bit camp so I bought him a long mohair stripey scarf from Missoni!

grill,

i love what you wrote "mine's a little bit camp"!! :woot:
i am sure he will love the missoni scarf

Yesterday I got mine this [the one on the right]

Its a restaurant card book, my dads always on business trips going to xyz restaurants, so I thought it would be a good idea, they had loads of nice things from paperchase when I went yesterday.

all great ideas...
and so---

in the end...those of you who said he would like a bit of my time had it pegged alright...
so i took the day off of work on wednesday and took him shopping for a hat....
partly for style purposes and partly for practicality...
he never wears one and i figure if he gets it from me maybe he will...

i had the day all planned --
we were going to go to some exclusive uptown men's boutiques...very traditional places with lots of wood, etc...
and then maybe see the tree at rockefeller center etc...

but he became fussy and after our first stop near the empire state building..
we took the subway back downtown...
where we wandered around chinatown and the lower east side...
we had lunch at joe's shanghai in chinatown (his favourite pan fried noodles)
then we walked down to the wholesalers on orchard street and found a store specializing in hats...where he found the perfect one and he wore it out of the store...!...
we went to an old fashioned candy store and got some licorice and walked around munching on strawberry wheels and special licorice from australia...
and then we split a pastrami on rye at Katz's deli for dinner (the spot where when harry met sally was filmed)...

it was actually totally fun and i love how bohemian my dad is ...
still, after alll this time...he would rather wander around the 'neighborhoood' than do anything uptight uptown...
it was a great time.!!...

and i got him some track pants and t-shirts to open on christmas day since they just got a treadmill...

i am still going to get him some cashmere socks- but they won't arrive for christmas- they are all sold out...

**that digital frame some of you mentioned seems to be sold out everywhere....it's a VERY popular gift this year!!...
...

Dad's are probably the hardest people to shop for, for sure! This Christmas I got my Dad some yummy chocolates and a desk Far Side calendar. ^_^

I have bought my Dad tickets to see Genesis when they play here in July.

He was a big fan through the 70's and 80's but couldn't get tickets when they went on sale. I managed to get two though and kept it quiet so it should be a suprise for him when he opens them tomorrow morning.

The dates were announced a few months ago for all of the European dates.

I’m guessing that due to the success of the ticket sales on this tour they will more than likely decide to do some American dates also.

I’m glad to report that the present went down very well, he genuinely was over the moon with his gift, to the point where I even managed to get a few tears out of him.

aww Mike that sounds like a thoughtful perfect gift!

softie - so glad the day went down well! I bet your dad totally treasures it :flower:

He likes plain, basic polo's with pockets...I got him a whole ton from American Apparel, my mom says he loves them and wont stop wearing them...

That was easy...
