Gisele Isn’t Retiring from Runway, Says Her Agent
Since mid-March, it’s been reported that the most supermodel-y of all supermodels, Gisele Bündchen, would be retiring from the runway following Sao Paulo fashion week. The 34-year-old all but confirmed the rumors Wednesday, posting a sad-looking photo of herself during her first-ever runway show at age 14 with the caption, “I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business.”
Her husband Tom even wrote her a nice little send-off. Then, with all the other models at the Colcci show sporting shirts emblazoned with photos of her perfectly angular face, Bündchen shed a tear on her final runway, EVER.
…Or was it?
Thursday, the New York Times spoke with Bündchen’s long-time agent, Anne Nelson—who wasn’t so fast to call Colcci the site of her client’s last catwalk strut.
According to Nelson, though Bündchen hasn’t been keen on doing runway for quite a while (as evidenced by her scarcity there over the last decade), she’s only officially “clos[ing] the chapter on the Brazilian runway.”
“I think a lot of people will still want her on the runway,” Nelson said. “Will she want to do it? That’s a whole other story. It would have to come within an interesting angle, a unique opportunity. Will she do it? I can’t guarantee that. But that people will call for her, yes.
“It is important that we continue to work on all kinds of capacities within the fashion industry,” she continued. “It’s also important that, as her representative, we bring every interesting opportunity her way. We’ll continue to do exactly that going forward.”
So, she’s just done walking in Brazil? Innnnteresting…
Nelson also revealed that Bündchen will soon be joining famous author Kim Kardashian on the shelves at Barnes & Noble: This fall, she’ll release a book chronicling her two-decade-long modeling career.
Could this mean we might be seeing Bündchen surprise-showing up at the next Paris Fashion Week in October after all? We’ll have to wait and see—but at the very least, there should be some book signings to look forward to.
