Good Cashmere

I was browsing Old Navy's site and I was surprised to see that they have a cashmere sweater and cashmere cardigan on sale.

I too am curious over the quality of their cashmere items. Like you say, Old Navy is great for basics, so it's almost strange that they would design a cashmere sweater and retail it for such a low price (for cashmere, at least). Hopefully someone will be able to tell us something about the pieces.

Anyone ever heard of a brand called "Friendly Hunting" (weird name, I know!)?

I saw some 100% cashmere items I like online and wondered if anyone knows them?

I'm a huge fan of the Michael Stars cashmere. Their slouchy grandpa cardigan is a fave as well as their v-necks. It's pretty good quality, but i'm still careful with it.

I've felt/seen Old Navy cashmere and I wasn't that impressed. It is cheap, however, but I think that spending a little more to get cashmere that actually felt soft, warm, and luxurious is worth it.

Of course, my aunt has a business that imports cashmere directly from Nepal, so I might just be a horrendous snob about it. But seriously - I wouldn't have even guessed Old Navy cashmere even was cashmere if it wasn't labeled as such (and I do own stuff from places like Old Navy, Target, H&M, and all that - I'm not a label snob).

^ Thanks for sharing that. I figured the quality wasn't going to be anything worth writing home over, but it's nice to have that confirmed. Guess I won't be buying any cashmere from Old Navy anytime soon.

Any feedback on CeCe cashmere or Maya cashmere?

I'm eyeing a simply black cashmere cardigan to obtain before season's end.

I recently ordered a catalogue from Eric Bompard & I eagerly await its arrival.

In an ideal world (or a postapocalyptic glacial dystopia), I'd be wearing Lucien Pellat-Finet daily.

I thought I would update! The cardigan below arrived today and it is beautifully soft, although I admit I'm not a cashmere expert!

I will say that J.Crew Cashmere sucks as does Gap's. Century 21(a NYC) shop sometimes has some ridiculously cheap cashmere. Also, from working at a cashmere clothing company some companies will private label merchandise from smaller companies and charge an arm an a leg. For instance Barney will pay $12.50 for a sweater from my company(and my company normally sells it for like $60 to smaller boutiques) and then Barney's will sell like it for like $600. NO Joke. Its insane. Which is way I don't pay a lot of money for cashmere.

^I do have cashmere from J.Crew and Banana Repulic and would have to agree. They're horrible for pilling only after a mild day's use. Fortunately, I've only purchased the items at significant discount or been given them as gifts.

I have heard several times that the quality of the cashmere depends on where it's from and how many ply? But how do you tell how many ply a knit is?

i am a big fan of cashmere sweaters !

I usually wear Eric Bompard and Zadig et Voltaire. I have to say that a have a probleme with Bompard.
I have noticed that the quality is not as good as before. I bought a grey sweater in November and when i compare with my old ones, i tought it was not the same. Actually, i ve the feeling the qulaity is bad now. thats why i will never buy Bompard anymore. and i have the feeling that its more expensive than before ( in France indeed)

Just thought i'd bump this post as on the look out for some nice new styled cashmere myself with autumn fashion upon us... just like the OP I find much of what I see a bit mumsey... twinsets are just evil!!! I've been looking in some shops in Scotland this month and seen nothing very inspiring... especially for the price... need to keep looking though!

So anyone any stylish ideas... I'm quite happy to pay if I think the quality is there...

for cashmere i would go vintage. i have a couple that i've worn lots and amazingly, they still look perfect. i really do believe that the quality just isn't the same these days. i'm kind of over spending money on new sweaters that get pilled/holey within weeks. maybe i just wear mine too hard.
