Known for his fashion photography, studio work and celebrity portraiture, Gordon Munro has spent much of his career shooting for magazines such as Time, Interview, W, Vogue and Bazaar. Born in England, Gordon was inspired by the works of famed photographers such as Richard Avedon, Hiro, Art Kane and Irving Penn, the latter of whom he worked with for four years following his move to New York in his early twenties. In the decades since, Gordon has had a thriving career in fashion, beauty and editorial, with a resume that includes the likes of Lancome, Revlon, Clinique, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Judith Lieber, and Bill Blass.
An expert in studio lighting and a gifted portraitist, Gordon has worked extensively in corporate and celebrity photography, and has worked with such Hollywood names as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Susan Sarandon, Dustin Hoffman, and Shirley MacLaine, as well as musicians including Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Ozzy Osbourne. Notable also has been his work with Elizabeth Taylor and Dr. Mathilda Krim on creating with Peter Rogers Associates the first campaign for The Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), which featured in total 144 actors, musicians, artists and writers, who arrived at the studio to be photographed in support of the charity. He has also shot campaigns for the Gay Mens Health Crisis (GMHC) for HIV/AIDS prevention and the Make a Wish Foundation.
Gordon and his wife now live in Aiken, South Carolina.
