Grace Kelly

Hello Magazine

Grace was very, very serious about her film career. Then she became very serious about her career as a wife and mother and princess" -Grace’s Fifties-era PR representative, Herb Steinberg

Twenty-six year-old Grace and her prince married in two ceremonies: the first took place at the Grimaldi family’s castle overlooking the Mediterranean and the second, a Roman Catholic mass, was held at Monaco cathedral. But the new princess hadn’t left behind her Tinseltown roots: her wedding gown – which used hundreds of yards of silk, taffeta and antique lace, along with thousands of tiny pearls – was created by MGM Studios designer Helen Rose.

TRAGEDY STRIKES

"I’d like to be remembered as a decent human being and a caring one" - Princess Grace, 1982

The world would never know what the future held for the princess as, on September 13, 1982, Grace suffered a stroke while driving with Stephanie on the winding mountain roads outside Monte Carlo. The car tumbled down a ravine, leaving the princess and her teenage daughter badly injured. Though Stephanie recovered, Grace died the following day of a cerebral haemorrage. She was 52 years old.

On September 18, Grace was buried in a royal crypt behind the main altar in Monaco cathedral, the same church in which she had married Prince Rainier. Thus, the world bade farewell to the Philadelphia golden girl who left her life as a Hollywood star to become one of Europe’s most adored royals. Friend and High Society co-star Frank Sinatra summed up the thoughts of many when he said after her death: "Grace was a gracious, wonderful woman who was a princess from the moment she was born."

Wow...Scriptgirl, you have really created an amazing tribute to GK in this thread!!!
I want to get my paws on a photo my grandma took of Grace when she met her. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up as this photo is in Fargo, ND and I am in California...but when I get out there to visit next I'll scan it for everyone. She is much older and wearing a long, green dress.

I'm not sure if this one was sent before. From the movie 'The Swan'
