Grant Matthews, the head of the Mondo family, found his photographic footing in the heart of the Australian rock music industry, capturing legendary images of bands such as INXS, Cold Chisel and Kylie Minogue. Three decades later, this industry heavyweight has worked for most major magazine titles and retail clients both in Australia and internationally. Editorially he has shot numerous Vogue editorials and covers and many famous faces, such as Julia Gillard, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe and Kylie Minogue to name a few. Not only a photographic guru, has also proved himself a sought-after director, with over one hundred commercials for clients such as Mastercard, Ikea, Colgate, YKK and Ray Ban.
In 2000 Grant was given the Presidents Award from the ACMP in recognition of his contribution to the commercial photographic industry and his services to magazines, a prize awarded only once every twenty years. Despite his celebrity photographer and director status, Grant is able to form an intimate relationship with his subjects, achieving natural, relaxed poses. After many years travelling the globe he now devotes himself to photographing in Sydney and enjoying ‘la dolce vita’ in his Culbarra villa.
