I've never been a fan of Jeff Koons, but I like this editorial ^_^

Portfolio by JEFF KOONS
Introduction by ALIX BROWNE
The actress Gretchen Mol was plucked from a New York City coat check, proclaimed to be the next big thing and put on the cover of Vanity Fair, only to be unceremoniously tossed by the very machinery that scooped her up in the first place.

It is somehow fitting, then, that she makes her decidedly brilliant comeback next month in Mary Harron's biopic, "The Notorious Bettie Page," wolfishly disguised in a black wig with bangs but otherwise naked as the day she was born. Page, the girl next door who became America's favorite B-movie pinup, apparently never lost her innocence (a curious state of being that also happens to be fashion's current obsession). In a particularly telling moment in the film, Page, at the height of her notoriety, spits a hard rubber ball out of her mouth to take a moment to talk to a photographer about Jesus.

Her talent is a gift, she says with wide-eyed sincerity, her arms strapped into a gesture that unsubtly alludes to the moral burden she would come to bear. While the statement might have been over the photographer's head, the artist Jeff Koons was appropriately charmed. On these pages, Koons, whose Pop aesthetic straddles pool toys and p*rn stars with equal glee, reimagines Mol's — and Page's — transformation. Only this time around, Mol is a star.

Some of it is a bit bland. I like the photo of her and the dolphin.

They really do capture the spirit of her work, especially the early camera club photos.

gretchen mol should seriously consider darkening her hair...
she is much more striking with the wig on...imo...

it's interesting that jeff koons incorprated his own work with pool toys...
i think it actually works here...

thanks for the pics dosV.......

softgrey - i agree. she is stunning with that dark hair, much more so than
in any picture i have seen her in...ever.

thanks DosV, quite nice, I can only hope her performance will equally convince.

Dear me, she looks like Jennifer Tilly with the black wig on (and that's not a terribly positive thing)!

Vivid hair/eye/skin color contrast is one of my favorite physical characteristics but in Gretchen's case she looks best au naturel (pale blonde hair, matching kelly green eyes). None of this Elvira stuff works on her.

I agree...Gretchen should go dark. She was OUTSTANDING as Bettie ! I saw the film. I also love Jeff Koons' work.
