Gucci F/W 09.10 Milan

actually is not that bad once you see the whole collection, but she'll never recover from her fw 06 and fw08 collections... it's not her best and defenitlynot her worst.

ayyy jesucristo :(
the styling is absolutely TRAGIC. It's like I'm looking at effing Rock and Republic.
and the boots? they're just run-of-the-mill platforms!!
it looks so, so dated.

Ugh, I had impression that it just might be OK before I saw the whole collection...now I think that those palm tree prints from SS aren't that bad :ninja:
I still love the shoes though.

I'm honestly more interested in the runway floor!

It looks like shattered glass.

It takes a skilled hand to make shimmery, sequined clothes without them looking horribly cheap. Decarnin can do it, Frida cannot. There is no subtlety here.

And comparing this to Tom Ford is ridiculous.

I'm so tired, tired, tired, tired of her glamrock/skinny suit aesthetic. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. This is just not Gucci for me...I can't help it, I know he's been gone for so long and it's time to move on but for me Gucci still is everything Tom Ford stood for. Actual danger, actual sex, actual glamour, actual tongue-in-cheek, actual desirability....as long as she keeps up with this rock crap I won't be able to detach myself from that feeling.

That said, this is a step up from last season. But.....whatever.

I'm really dissapointed for this season, because I LOVED FW08 and SS09

I can't believe it, the time I see it the time I get angrier. I really can not understan how that girl is designing at one of the most important fashion brands all over the world while there are a lot of talented people without a job...
This is absolutely sad, and I think nowadays what really minds to people is the name of the brand, and that's sad in a forum like this, which is about fashion...
I suppose if those "cloths" were presented under another brand the comments would be quite different... :(

What's money doing to fashion?

It's natual, really. You got bigger shoes (platforms) to fill when you are designing under a brand (especially one such as gucci) than under your own name.

like i said before i'm in love with the collection but it's also a definate improvement from the horrible THING she did last season

I know, but what I mean is that it's very disappointing seeing how nowadays the talent is the last thing to consider, only a name drives people mad. I really hate that, I think it's really sad.

The same happens to Decarnin, Marchesa, Elie Saab and all those horrible designers. Vogue Paris in the first case and celebrities in the last ones are able to make people think what they want, while they are designing rubbish...

Why is she trying to bring back the 80's with this? The heavy-make-up, the awful hair, the shiny/metalic over-the-topness? It was fun and quirky when Marc Jacobs did it; but here it looks utterly ridiculous and pretentious. It's clear she wants to indulge her own ego so that when newspapers declare "the return of the 80s", her Gucci photos will run along side those articles; which in effect means exposure, profit etc etc.

Besides, who exactly is going to buy this? 80% of this is something a woman would wear to a disco/club/premiere/party. Who exactly is going to wear metallic suits during the daytime and not look ridiculously out-of-place in this economic climate?

Seriously, whilst I don't hate this collection, I find a lot of it self-indulgent and stupid. Say what you want about Frida, but her beginnings were about a certain sense of wearability. She had show pieces interspersed throughout, but she also always made sure there were some 'normal' everyday pieces.

FAIL for Gucci two seasons in a row. :innocent:

I'm probably going to regret admitting this, but I actually think that last season was infinitely better than this. The biggest flaw in last season was the fact that the clothes didn't look luxurious and that they were derivative of things you can get for much less money. But the clothes on their own weren't awful.

But this collection, on top of not being luxurious or having anything really fashionable about it, is insanely tacky.

I think I may just have a new-found respect for Balmain. That's tacky too, but it's tacky done well. This collection is a mess of so many fashion no-no's crammed into one look that I can't even begin to guess what Giannini was thinking.

I remember back when she started she made some backhanded comment in regards to her predecessor to the effect of "I'm not interested in dressing footballer's wives". Who exactly does she think this stuff is going to wind up on? The hipsters who covet this look probably can't afford the clothes, and Gucci's respectable clientele (if there is such a thing anymore) is probably not interested in anything so youth obsessed and trendy, so who's left? Eurotrashy rich b*tches and the Real Housewives of New Jersey.

Props to you Frida, for giving Gucci some prestige

what an eyesore

literally. all that shiny material against the black background is giving me a headache

YES!

Maybe thats her intention. To create as much distraction in the set design that you don't notice the actual collection?:innocent:

On a further note; who the HECK was responsible for designing the set? It's hideous.

Look how much it changes the aesthetic of the clothes with a different backdrop...

I seriously wanna cry. This has ruined my whole day!!! But I have no one to blame but myself. I continue to believe that there is hope for Gucci, I continue to believe that this stupid woman is going to do something useful rather than pick up garbage bags and put them on models.

Since when have oversized polka dotted dresses been flattering?? In lumino colours!!!

What is with the HAIR! it looks like something from a kids horror story!

I only like the tight leather pants and the shoes.
