Looks pretty competetive this year! They're all quite deserving of this award. I love just about all of them.

    You're welcome you guys :flower:

I've got a strong feeling that Sophia Kokosalaki will win it this year.

I think so too. She seems ripe for it. I was quite surprised to see Raf win last year. Isn't this prize awarded to less famous designers to help them financially? I'd hardly think that Raf needs financial support. Not to take away from Raf's merit as a designer, he is one of my favorites.

Runner, let us know please who the CW store is. I think there is only one outlet in NYC for it Seven

You'd be surprised at the lack of money even amongst more popular indie's. It really is about the set-up of your business. Some just work more quietly than others. And Raf really doesn't have a tremendous-sized business despite all his success. Plus, the aspects that even the underdogs face in finance....backers,maunfacturers etc. etc. You name it and it most likely will take it.

I don't think it really has alot to do with popularity vs. lesser knowns. Being independent and trying to survive in a non-independent fashion world is tough for anybody. Raf can just as easily(touching wood)go bankrupt as Jurgi Persoons did.

I saw that too! I couldn't believe they would carry such a thing but....apparently they're trying to widen the parameters of commerce a bit. I mean, look at some of the designers they rid the shop of.

    And the winnners are:

For the prestigious Swiss Textile Award,it was given to Haider Ackermann. Respectively.

For the Ackerman(unrelated to Haider)award, this was given to Lutz.

    They both deserve it!

Sorry I didn't see this until now. Seven only carries classic Guess jeans, not any of the horrible Marciano stuff you would see in the Paris Hilton ads. And yeah, it's true that they have been getting rid of designers that aren't selling well--As Four, Tess Giberson, etc--for quite awhile now. I think Joseph tries his hardest to support underground talents but in the end, it always comes back to the dollar. And if a line doesn't sell, no store is going to keep buying it.

i was going to say the same thing m-o-m...
the guess jeans are the 80's redux...with the very narrow leg...

and i was also wondering about the judges...anyone know?...
is the competition open to all designers?...do they apply or are they nominated?...
    thanks!... :flower:

You know the web site doesn't even tell who the panel of judges were. At least not yet, anyway. Hmmm....if I remember correctly,I think I read when I first posted this(as the web site has been revamped since)Armand Limnander(sp?)was supposed to be one of the judges. Not sure though.

As for your querie,Softie,it is strictly a nomination type of awards programme. I don't know though if this is a collaborative development between GWAND and establishments in certain cities or not? Like FFI,for instance.

I do know that the money is some serious cash. €100.000 is the Swiss Textile Prize and the Ackermann award is €50.000. And this will do for,of course, fabric and manufacturing costs. You know, the main aspects that tend to prove too difficult with so many indie's.
