How do you know what do all the celebs do when they are pregnant?Some of you seem to know these people personally...

Britney never drank while she was pregnant. If it was Britney instead of Gwyneth people would be freaking out, but people assume that Gwyneth knows what she's talking about because she's so pretentious and healthy.

I think it's better to steer clear of alcohol when pregnant personally. It's even stranger for Gwynnie seeing as she's always banging on about healthy eating.

Whitelinen - I agree with you somewhat, but celebrities invite the media in when it suits them on different occassions. Gwynnie has spoken about intimate stuff in the past when it comes to her private business, therefore I think it's hypocritical and not altogether that suprising when she gets arsey if stuff that doesn't put her in a favourable light, comes out....

Foetal alcohol syndrome is only caused by consistantly drinking throughout the pregnancy and even then sometimes it may have not affect on the baby.
Although, I'm not condoning drinking whilst pregnant by any means this story is totally out of proportion. . .

Geeze, she only had 1 guinness. Given how neurotic she is I suspect she's researched the benefits (iron and other vitimans) and analized the risks and made an informed decision. sure it's probably not the best choice but I don't think it's the worst and it's probaby a one-off

she's fairly far along and I don't think it's much of a big deal. Goodness, Natalia V was reported drinking during her pregnancy too.

^Exactly. Is it impossible to go 9 monthes with out a drink? It's selfish to risk making your child mentally ******** just so you can have a guinness.

One drink in that stage of the pregnancy might not do any harm, but since every pregnancy is different and not that much is know about FAS, the experts on this subject agree that an expectant mother shouldn't drink at all. Yes, some doctors might say that it's alright to do, but some doctors will prescribe amphetamines and oxycontin to anyone that ask. I know first hand that doctors don't know everything.

One drink has the potential to make her baby serious physical and mental disabilities and whose to say that she doesn't drink more if she's unapologetic about drinking in public?

I know a lot about FAS and what she did is a serious, terrible thing. You wouldn't smoke or do drugs while pregnant, and even if you did the baby might come out fine, but there's still the chance that it wouldn't. When someone drinks alcohol when they're pregnant, so does their baby, and it's definately not right to give an infant a drink. That might seem extreme, but what she did is not okay.

Completely not true. Drinking or smoking in moderation during pregnancy does not harm the fetus or impede development. There is statistical evidence to back this up.

Government agencies like the CDC, HHS, NIH issue blanket statements in order to control behavior- tell everyone not to do it and hopefully they won’t or societal norms will pressure you to conform. The same goes for smoking legislation.

Guinness is supposed to be full of iron. I'm just surprised she would do in public...in the US. She brought this on herself. so pretentious

A small can of Guinness or stout is encouraged by some nurses to pregnant women here in the UK (not to be drank everyday obviously) because it's so full of iron.Gwyneth is a woman who is such a health freak I would say this is what's she's doing rather than just drinking to harm her baby.

I'm not getting into the drinking while pregnant debate, but Guinness is NOT FULL OF IRON. It's a myth, an old wives tale, whether some doctors still believe it or not. It has iron in it, but far less than many, many other items.

this story is complete bs! it is widely known that chris martin does not drink and gwyneth is a very health conscious woman and very protective of her family and child. i highly doubt that this story as any accuracy at all.

LOL, my co-worker is a health conscious freak! He cycles like everyday to work, goes to kickboxing classes, and eats a vegetarian diet! Yet he smokes like a chimney, and drinks like a fish! So what if Gwyneth and Chris are all about good health?........
