I mean the metal clips with what appears to be either white cloth or paper attached to them.

They look like the same clips you can get at any drugstore, and are used in hair salons, etc. They're cheap and utilitarian and incredibly useful. The little papers prevent them from leaving a crimp mark in your hair.

That's what I wanted to know, thanks!

-those spring closing ones (like a clothes pin) are they called "alligator/crocodile" (they look like gator/crocs - esp. with the teeth) clasps/clips? I thought there was a special name for that type. I ask because I'm trying to find images of them on google. Simple plain silver hair clips, but i can't seem to find any.

I think they're called sectioning clips, but I'm not sure. (I think alligator clips have teeth as well as the spring.) Here's a pic from the Goody site (they make the cheapest ones, you can get them in any drugstore):

we call them duckbill clips around here I think - you can get them at most beauty supply stores, target, kmart, even supermarkets, they're a huge staple in my hair accessories basket =)
