The movie got really high ratings, but am I the only person who didn't really enjoy it?

I know it's a musical, but I thought there was hardly any dialogue and barely any development of the characters.

I think the only reason the movie got high ratings is because there's a great cast of characters, good music and in the end, you get a lot of out of the movie cause of the positive message.

But overall, I wasn't too impressed :(:ninja:

I wasn't too impressed either, but that's because I am a hardcore fan of the original [movie.] It just didn't live up to it.

However, I still enjoyed it for what it was worth. It made me laugh and want to dance. And James Marsden!? Ugh, so much hotter than Zac Efron in the movie. And I love Zac.:(

Have you seen the original?

^ I don't think James Marsden would pass as a teenager ^_^
But I loved his cheesey smiles in the film though.

I took it for what it was, which was a fun, campy, summer popcorn flick. I didn't take it too seriously, even with the 'message' (I don't really care when a movie feels the need to wack the viewer over the head with the moral).
But yes, James Marsden is way better than Zac Efron.
Did anyone else love the dresses Penny Pingleton wore?

Not me lol. I did like the stuff Michelle Pfeiffer wore. She looked so gorgeous in that movie!

Was really surprised that I enjoyed this as much as I did, was a fan of the first movie so wasn't expecting to like this, but hey it was good fun. Saying that I did watch it with my godchildren who just loved it, so maybe it rubbed off.
I thought all the cast were great and John Travolta did a pretty good job in a role that I thought only Divine could handle.

I liked the original movie with Ricki Lake very much and have for years. When I heard about the remake, I rushed out to see it. After the opening sequence, I was like, "WTF is this?!" I didn't like any of the songs or the fact that it was based after the musical and not the original film. It was pretty well-cast though, IMO. I especially thought Bynes, Janney, and Queen Latifah were perfect choices! I wasn't too fond of the "Tracey Turnblad" casting though. She seemed too theatrical. Everyone who saw it with me LOVED it, but none of them saw the original movie. ;)
