Halston F/W 08.09 NYC

Yes, I was hoping (and assuming) that's what we were going to get, too.
i think a lot of people wanted/ expected this. but he would have been CRUCIFIED if he did. i guess its one of thoes your damned if you do (give 'em studio 54), damned if u dont (simple pre studio 54 halston).

i am predicting that these are the two dresses that net-a-porter will put for sale tomorrow...

:innocent:...

:p

...which is odd because those are what the public will see as the "new" Halston, and although I think the first shirt dress is okay, that gown has nothing to do with Halston as I know it. I figured they would sell something classical to tap into people's pre-conceived notions of Halston.

****, Halston is such a classic, it will never go out of style.

I only like that one jumpsuit.

The rest is hideous and an insult to the name Halston.

I feel it's quite a literal interpretation of Halston. Like the highwaisted orange pants  I don't think it's bad by any means but it just doesn't have that edge that Halston had

I agree, too much so.

I was hoping for better, this is a disappointment.

What the hell is the periwinkle thing?

Do you think so?

Unfortunately, I think you could well be right. :(

But, I think it would be truly idiotic for people to criticise a designer, who has been specifically charged with resurrecting a well-known fashion house, for drawing on its best-remembered, glory days, don't you?

If I had been in Marco Zanini's place, that's exactly what I would have done and to hell with the dissenters!

Sometimes it is the very job of a designer to be joyfully clichéd and referential and to try to avoid it, is to show oneself to be overly concerned with other people's opinions (which is one of the biggest killers of creativity, IMO) and/or perverse for the sake of it.

I guess I'm one of the few who like this.
Love the minimal aesthetic.

^^ Thanks for pointing that out, I am a big fan of Halston but had never really seen him do a halter in that style. :flower:

you're welcome. it's funny how i remember that design. there was a tv show back in the 70s of jaclyn smith wearing a white chiffon dress in that same exact cut and she said it was halston. since then, that was my idea of halston. i'm sure he had a different aesthetic from this one at another time.

the colors are a drag.

if they wanted to keep the silhouettes simple, they should have gone for the gold as far as color (i mean this figuratively, not literally).

Well, it's nothing like I was expecting. I know it would have been cliche to do the glamour thing, but I think that's what most NY fashion is truly lacking, edgy, sleek, sophistication and a healthy dose of sensuality. This is in the same vein as Jil Sander and Calvin Klein, except they both have those details that make it desirable and original.

This isn't bad, but it's kind of boring. The colors aren't really helping it either, it's either those muddy shades of taupe or super saturated 70's colors. It was a golden opportunity, a star making kind of moment, but it fell flat.

In trying to avoid being literal or overly referential, he kind of sacrificed the joy and appeal of it all.

There are beautiful pieces to be found, but I was hoping for much more.

It's definitely in the vein of Calvin Klein. It does have some elements of halston - the simple yet glamorous cuts, but it's also lacking the edge.

So I guess the 6th time is NOT the charm.........

I really like a few of the evening gowns, but the rest is really bland...

i like its simplicity and colours. refreshing to see somthing so simple, other designers have really gone over-the-top with colours and details
