As Nicole and Matthew Mellon presented their sophomore collection for Hanley Mellon, they noted that with each season, they “plan to go somewhere different.” For spring, it was Kenya and for pre-fall, it is 15th-century Northern European Renaissance. The result was a rich palette of olive, yellow, red and sapphire in opulent velvets and jacquards, which also managed to look effortless and modern.
A golden yellow jacquard jacket, for example, was given a sportswear vibe via a black ribbed-hem detail, while a sapphire silk blouse was paired with boxy leather Bermudas. There were also plenty of knits — from classic cardigans to turtlenecks. “Knits are very important for us — our girl layers,” explained Nicole Hanley Mellon.
