Harper’s Bazaar España January 2018 : Carolyn Murphy by Nino Munoz

I loooooove both covers but the second one for me is EVERYTHING !!!! I love Carolyn as a supermodel, she is amazing, ageless, so classy and great person too. Can´t wait to buy this by the way.

These are both fabulous covers. I'm not sold on her facial expression in the second one - but everything else about the cover is stunning, so it's still a winner overall.

And I also love Carolyn - agree with everything you said Bertrando! :)

I can’t even see the picture.. it’s Vargas Llosa advertised like Scott Disick and right on the center what’s doing something to my eyes. Kind of thought he was already dead, now kind of wishing it too, what’s next, Noam Chomsky and Valerie: heat is ON?..

Perhaps I'm old or old fashioned, but this is high fashion to me!
Gorgeous grown-up chic! :crush:

I love both these covers. They're simple but Carolyn really sells them.

The fashion imagery of today simply regurgitating rather than re-imagining past influences is at once embarrassing, frustrating, and disappointing.

I've been reading fashion magazines since 1990 and realize the huge influence of previous decades in those images which sparked my passion not just for fashion but for photography, design, music, arts & culture.

Of course every generation looks to their past for inspiration but there must be innovation, new experiences, new thoughts injected into old ideas that's reflective and relevant to our times right NOW. For me Grunge was at once ridiculous yet genius in it's rebellious rejection of straight-laced 80s power-tripping conformity, and embracing of new found 90s imperfect individuality. Grunge to me represented borrowed, battered, well-loved hippie rags emblazoned with a radical new message, I could get behind.

What made the fashion of every previous decade so exciting and still joyous to experience lies not simply in creating aesthetically pleasing photograph but a capturing of the the energy, excitement, sense of wonder, the zeitgeist of that particular moment in time.

Looking over the newest VERSACE campaign just yesterday I knew I'd only get a poorly copied version of 90s Gianni Versace decadence. So while this is indeed a pleasant cover image if not a bland retro throwback even Carolyn can't save I'm left to ask what is it SAYING about our culture, the time captured in this photo? I see no building upon only a shallow homage devoid of any real message.

If fashion chronicles the issues of our times, it appears we're currently undergoing a Nostalgic Identity Crisis.

These to me looks like US Vogue edit shots used for the cover. The 2nd cover is better than the first, but the clashing shoes (in terms of colour) bothers me. Still, much better than most editions out there.

Solid points, you have made indeed a brilliant and poignant explanation and there´s in fact no denial that what we´re experimenting now in terms of Fashion imagery AND fashion design is more about regurgitating and a big nostalgia from the past eras instead of building new images and vision for ourselves.

Although every decade in the past since 1900 has shown different styles/moods/attitude and shapes, I believe after the year 2000 it´s a mouvement of self expression through the clothing that we´re seeing and as for the style it´s futuristic sexy and powerful/darker style that would prevail in my mind for magazines and powerful fashion images that we will remember until a new era starts. Alexander Wang/Rick Owens kind of designers will lead the way for the next decade.

The nostalgic identity crisis that you´re talking about, I see it much more clearly with men´s fashion and men´s fashion magazines than for women, because it´s very limited for men or to open up the scope of what the world says it´s ok for men to wear (because of the society etiquette or social codes, macho masculinity rules and other stupid molds etc. ). Because since 1920 every era magazines referred to those eras in editorials and covers. You could live in 1950 or 1990 and find stories reminiscing about the 40´s you know? And there´s nothing wrong with that but fashion editors and photographers, after the 2000 seem to only be attracted with things from the past, that´s why I always alwayssssss prefer to see editorials now that depict the future or that go beyond what we had or what we have now and show us a glimpse of what we could be wearing or how we could be living.
