Harper's Bazaar Australia January / February 2017 : Jesinta Franklin by Nick Leary

was super stoked to see some new blood for the cover and then I opened the thread...

Not even gonna go there photography wise

Eye roll inducing cover line

Since when was Oz HB bi-monthly? Perhaps this will bolster the quality of their editorial output?

^ Aussie Bazaar is ten times a year, they combine jan/feb and june/july ... which unfortunately means enduring this mess on the newsstand for twice as long. No idea who Jesinta Franklin was until i realised it's just Jesinta Campbell's married name and then it clicked. She comes across as a really sweet person but i'm just not interested in seeing a beauty queen/brand ambassador on the cover, would much prefer Miranda or Jess Hart. Still, if going that route, at least make it a little more sharp and high fashion, this looks somewhere between Better Homes & Gardens and Women's Weekly.

I never like it when even my own hair looks better than what I'm seeing on a cover.

Don't know who she is, but the shot is just OK, nothing more, nothing less. Apt for Harper's, in fact, it looks like something the British edition would do.

I'm more concerned that this type of inoffensive styling and photography is being aggressively normalised!

Gotta say, Weber has ruined puppies in fashion for me...
Also, no idea who she is and this looks more Spring than Summer.

Not their best cover but good to see new talent, both the model and photographer, on the cover. Not a fan of the styling, looks more like a spring cover rather than a summer one. The lighting however is stunning. Its a very 'thin' issue, only two fashion editorials, but its what you can expect from the magazines' first issue of the year. There should be double the content since it is a January/February two month issue.
Harper's Bazaar Australia is an underrated publication here despite their good editorial team but they could do so much more. The editor in chief is a fashion journalism veteran and their fashion director is Vogue alumni. Their art direction is consistent although needs cleaning up, especially their shopping pages which is very collaged. They are a big user of themed issues too. The Fashion Issue. The Beauty Issue. The Luxury Issue. The Health Issue etc. Isn't each issue a combination of these? Their editorials are always beautifully styled and photographed and they play it to their strengths. Bazaar was awarded fashion magazine of the year the previous year and they should live up to it.

She is the vacuous wife of one of the most famous AFL players in Australia. I believe she was also Miss Universe or Miss Australia (née Campbell) a few years ago but she is mainly known for her marriage.

 Really? HB Aus seems to love these 'glamour wives of famous men' then. First Lara Bingle, now Jesinta.

I look at Waleska's pictures and I see the brutality of the modelling industry. A few seasons ago she and Julia Nobis had one of the most memorable David Sims campaigns for Marc Jacobs, and her future looked bright. After a blink she dissapeared from the scene, now we see her in .....HB Australia.

The edits are styled perfectly, but it looks like she's trying too hard. Doesn't suit her at all.

I agree, Benn98. I'm not particularly a Waleska fan but according to models.com rankings she has walked more shows (341!) over the past two years than any other model..that's a lot of work without much reward. The industry these days spits new girls out before they get a chance to properly establish themselves..
