Hedi Slimane - Designer

i can definitely see hedi launching his own label but not anytime soon (due to the prohibitive costs). like lola said, he works much better as a creative director overhauling a large fashion house.

"starting your own brand" in 2025 is not the same as in 1997. People have no idea how many hurdles to make a brand that can compete in this current market (look at Phoebe) list not like you buy a domain name and register Shopify. Hedi makes products, makes communication, makes stores; these elements needs talents and staff, atelier, suppliers, spaces, boutiques., logistics and many many more. It needs investment to fuel and gas this machine. Why build one from scratch when you can fix old dusty ones?

Recently, I was lucky enough to finally find and purchase a Celine teddy from SS19 (subtle but important differences, to me anyway, such as white buttons, thinner stripes and a slimmer fit) in a pretty much unworn/brand new condition.

And putting it on for the first time reminded me of why people love Hedi so much. His attention to details and the ways his garments fit are simply unmatched.

At a glance most would say it's the same as his teddy from SLP, but the small tweaks turn it into a much more elevated version. I don't care for corduroy but the one used on this jacket, while fundamentally black, possesses a subtle, underlying golden sheen that reveals itself in sunlight. This creates a shimmering effect, lending the fabric a rich, almost bronzed or deep brown undertone. It feels more "luxurious".

The addition of a gold trim around the collar so it doesn't get lost within the jacket? The satin shoulder panels that conform to your shoulders instead of sticking out (which can happen with the usual leather that's used if the fit isn't perfect)? GENIUS.

I am far from Hedi's target demographic and in general it can be difficult for me to find flattering clothing off the rack (I'm a tad taller than the average US male, but I workout and have a muscular build with a small waist), and yet the jacket fit me perfectly. It's like witchcraft. I practically fell to my knees, sobbing when I saw it fit like a glove.

absolutely loved the tangent! i agree with you; even though we are on completely different sides of the spectrum (i’m freakishly thin), no clothes fit me as good as hedi does, and everytime i put on a piece from him, i am gobsmacked. at times, i even get watery eyes thinking about it. i need more hedi fanboys here fr

my absolute favorite stuff from him was his tenure at slp; his outerwear was always just on point, and the way he designed his slp jeans to fit is absolute perfection. pairs are slim in the thigh, slightly hug the calf area, and the leg openings are roomy
