Gorgeous thread.

It becomes clear, through browsing through the pages here, the genius of Helmut. It is rare that a designer can create such compelling, provoking, conceptual clothes. These are made for real life, for real people...and often times such reality based collections can be boring and uninspired...but not with Lang.

His work in the late 90's-early 00's is great. Such impeccable aesthetics.

But I have to say that my favorite Lang collections are from the 2003-2005 era, in particular Fall/Winter 2003. It's one of my favorite collections of all time, of any designer.

1996(one of my absolute favourites of all!)

2004-

Those videos were great to watch! Thanks for posting :) He really is a great designer

^ Thanks so much for the scan!

In the very first sentence he says that his studio and archives caught fire. Nooooo!

really.....oh no! i wonder how that will affect the preservation of the house?

Runner - can't thank you enough for your incredible 90's show scans!!!!

I made good use of them in an Alexander Wang vs Helmut Lang debate (of course Lang wins over Wang in my books any day!)

^^^Really?!?!? There are people that actually compare Wang to Lang-- let alone debate on the two??? One is a trailblazer, innovator and as mentioned, a pioneer in fashion, who remains relevant and inspirational years after he has left behind fashion; the other is merely designing fashionable clothes... what's there to debate?

^^^ Couldn't agree more about the defining differences between the two designers!

If only Wang would just go and create something that wasn't so obviously 'inspired' by his predecessor who could never be replaced. I just find it quite visually interesting to compare the two and see how lazy Wang has been with his references....

Helmut Lang has generously donated a collection of his work in fashion from 1997 to 2005 to Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Fashion Museum. Twenty five of the ensembles will be on display at the Museum from 1 May 2010.
