Does anybody else know of the band Hem? I have been totally and utterly in love with them for so long.
Their iTunes bio describes their music as "traditional American music while draping it in contemporary stylings." To me, I definitely hear traditional American Appalachian music in there at times, as well as powerful yet soft southern hymn sounds ... all in all it's wonderfully lush and resonant and classic. Almost lullaby-like at times, with fantastic orchestral compositions and poetic lyrics that make my heart wrench at their sheer beauty. And Sally Ellyson, lead singer, has a voice that is pure and musical and a little bit like Allison Krauss's.
I absolutely could never ever get enough of my favorite three albums:
Eveningland
Rabbit Songs
Funnel Cloud
