chunky without being clunky...
which is not easy to pull off...

i think these are magnificent..
i really can't see myself wearing the clogs or pumps...
but i would love those boots and the platforms...
which is odd, because i usually shy away from them...

wait till i start the robert clergerie thread...

but again...elegant and refined...
the combination is pure genius...

I love them. I was in the Henry Beguelin store late last week, and I have really fallen under the spell of this line. Just beautiful, original, quality things.

What is the story with Henr Cuir, btw? All I know about it is that the product lines look pretty much identical, but Cuir is only sold at Barney's. I seem to remember that maybe Cuir was a secondary line produced just so Barney's could carrie the line w/o dealing with the competitive issues with BG... I think I am totally off on that last one though. If anyone knows the actual story please enlighten me.

i think the french are especially good at this...
they don't seem to be afraid of a little frump...
it makes a woman seem a bit less like a barbie doll somehow as well...
which is a good thing in my book...

really interesting to hear your take on it soft....
i cant quite put my finger on what it is that turns me off immediately...
something about the chunkiness....it almost feels awkward....

the studs....the very thick heel....
its all very 'solid'...but the proportions are just so different to those that i seem to identify as 'beautiful'....
the clog with the fur trim, for example....
i cant even understand it....it just looks so overdone and heavy....
like a woman in that shoe would just look ridiculous....

^See if you can find some French fashion pics from the pre-WWII era, or even early '40's, and you'll see some very lovely looks with shoes that, by themselves, would look just as bulky as these.

Thanks Soft I'll check it out. I was in the store in the Meatpacking District. Its actually in that Gansevort hotel, but the entrance is on the 9th Ave. side. Its really, really tiny, but its the only place I have seen the outerwear and apparel (for men anyway). Worth checking out if you are ever down there...
