Before I considered high waisted skirts to be elegant but now that they've been appropriated by chain stores for teenyboppers it's a bit trashy now. I'm 22.. I don't want to be in the same things 14 year olds are sporting

i see where ur coming from but i think as long as u feel comfy wearing them and u want to wear them and u wear them right, doesnt depend on others or how THEY wear it...
Spot on fairy, i think thats what happens when things you love go into mainstream fashion. As long as you wear it your way then its okay, most of the girls are wearing stuff just to feel apart of the crowd instead of showing their own interpretation.
i dont really like that...i mean it looks like a dress so i dont see the point of wearing that skirt if u know what i mean
if im wearing a skirt i want it to look like a skirt not like a dress
The whowhatwear TV co-hosts are beautiful! I don't like the high-waisted slim skirts. It looks very tacky. These more flared and flowy skirts are beautiful. Something I've really noticed is how much a lady can take some sort of one-piece design and try to modify current clothing to produce a two-piece look that's amazing. I think the best modified look would be a flowing skirt that goes to or just below the knees. Two Indonesian ladies I came across (the only two Indonesians I personally know) worn the kind of skirt that would look great if it was worn somewhere midway between the hips and the bustline. The look is like its own dress. Only problem with doing something like this is that you have to make sure you don't have a skirt basically designed to be worn from its traditional length. So any super-low mini skirts, almost any skirt with pockets or a fly that's fastened in any sort of way wouldn't work. I've seen dresses that have that look of a high-waisted skirt extending and flaring from below the bustline. I can understand the style here for ladies who attempt this. I just don't like slim high-waisted skirts. Either slim high-waisted skirts, or any skirt in which the high-waisted portion looks super-slim and off-key.
i dont think high wasted slim skirts look tacky...depends on how u pair it i think...one of my good friends always wears them with oversized shirts tugged into the skirt...it looks sooo cool!
The style of high waisted skirt I'm trying to find is like this Donna Karan, in black. Has anyone seen anything similar on the british high street, or available in the uk online?

Now, see... the skirt like in Post #150 works best as far as a cute skirt flared beautifully. Not exactly the pattern or style of the skirt, but even a plain-colored skirt would even be lovely. The look is basically a dress for ladies who don't like wearing dresses. It's a beautiful look for ladies who can pull it off.
I really love the high wasited pencil skirts. I usually pair mine with one of my vintage no-sleeved band shirts. Suprisingly the proportions look good on me
I absolutely hate hate haaate normal skirts, and never really owned any but I absolutely ADORE high-waisted skirts! I find them to be extremely flattering and I love the way they look on me.. I have a lot of unique ones in different colours/fabrics that I love to pair with just a plain top!! Love this look!!
