Hey, I was wondering if people could post "buzz" bands from their area. (not necessarily from there, but that everyone's into) Such as:
I'm from VAncouver, B.C.........some hot bands/artists here right now are..

Bloc Party
Death from above 1979
M.I.A.
Black Mountain
Dandy Wind
Feist
Arcade Fire

In Holland it's mostlyThe Killers :yuk: (even among the plastics!), Bloc Party, em... I think I'll have to do a bit more research now, it's quite interesting.

Black Mountain played on a festival here, I thought they were just a small band from the US/Canada

well this isn't necessarily what i'm into, but in australia, the buzz seems to be about:

(from overseas)
The bravery
the kaiser chiefs
bloc party
interpol
franz ferdinand

(local)
faker
end of fashion
the lucksmiths
neon
architecture in Helsinki

Thanks guys! I always thought there would be a big difference. Like, if a band was big here...it would have already been "over" in the UK or wherever. Kaiser Chiefs have only been popular here for a couple of months (their show was the best I've seen all year!)...I'm loving Architecture in Helsinki right now! I'm hoping to hear about some cool bands that haven't got much attention here yet.

James Blunt is big in the UK at the moment, and him and Damien Rice seem to be boosting the popularity of Jack Johnson and other similar artists. Everyone seems to have their own discovery, because acoustic singer/songwriters are cool right now.

However, Damien Rice is the only one who can really write music although James Blunt has his moments.

Local to me.... Maximo Park (mercury prize nominated)

I'm loving James Blunt/Damien Rice at the moment

Yeah I was going to mention them.Plus The Raveonette's,Editors and Morning Runner are getting a lot of press, mainly to do with the fact Chris Martin keeps talking about them ;)

MIA's doing well at the moment (also nominated for Mercury Prize)

rockethouse, morningwood, ambulance ltd, the everyothers, the blue van, kaisar chiefs, white light motorcade, bloc party, idlewild, ordinary boys, the adored, autolux

i live in australia and the buzz in the alternate music scene here is bloc party..which is awesome
slit skirt im glad to know idlewild are 'hot' in your area..they are such a good band! (even if their last album wasnt as good as past ones)

Nice for James and Damien, I didn't know Damien was English. Last year he got a lot of attention among the um, musicfreaks like me, I love Amie.

I really am a snob. I've heard quite a few bands that were mentioned here, some I don't even listen to. Maximo Park seems to be 'hot', and um... Kaiser Chiefs? I said I was going to do good research :ermm:

So, I checked the ELLEGirl forums  There was talk about: Jamie Cullum, Kanye West, McFly, John Travolta (yep, in the music section), Greenday, My Chemical Romance, Saybia, KT Dunstall, Michael Buble, Gwen Stefani, Gavin Degraw and Jack Johnson. I don't know half of them.... I can tell you who's hot locally: Racoon, Gabriel Rios, Krezip, Anouk and The Sheer.

I already had the faint suspicion that band is not very warmly received at this place :innocent: What kind of music do they play? Is it another emo band?

He's Irish.James is doing so well at the moment which means that some critics are slagging him off

My brother loves MCR,he is so emo! Personally I can't see what the fuss is about, there's nothing original about them

Yeah, he first made it big early last year, it just seems that among my friends there's a big surge in that sort of music. The problem is that nearly anyone can play a guitar, so I keep being told of great new discoveries who turn out to be a bit disappointing.

Damien is still great though, I especially like Woman Like a Man, and Blower's Daughter, and  the end of Eskimo

Now James should kick their butts! Mr. Writer :innocent: Nah, critic (founded or not) is necessary, it motivates.

I know what you mean Paullw, there are so many songwriters at the moment - your friends' needs must be greatly satiated - but the mass sounds just like one another. I hiiiiighly recommend Scout Niblett (hi Mullet), if you don't know her yet, you have to promise you'll give it a listen! :D
