Anyone else here a huge jazz fan? My personal favorites are...

Charlie Parker
Norah Jones
Frank Sinatra
Ella Fitzgerald
Louis Armstrong
Nat King Cole
Miles Davis

I am a saxophone player and I love jazz! Of course Frank Sinatra is a god  but my personal favorites are Steve Cole, Dave Koz and Kenny G.

 Yay! enjoy enjoy!!

do you play anything bella lass or do you just enjoy listening to it?

Jazz is the best music kind...who doesn't love it?!:p

I really considered myself a music fan. I have a lot of CDs and got one of those subscritions as well for my mp3 player. The thing is I have mainly just listened to things that have come out during my time. I have not appreciated music of the past. To be honest when this girl I sit next to at my umg plays jazz and Ella Fitzgerald next to me I did not have to slightest of clues. Yah I know its sad. Anyway it really was hard not to appreciate her voice ya know. I actually got this we love ella cd recently because of this new found passion. It has some unheard tracks and it was definitely very new to me. Anyway all I am trying to say is that I am really starting to appreciate the past and it takes people to open my eyes so to speak. Oh yah if ya want info on that record check this link. http://www.concordmusicgroup.com/albums/CCD-30213/
it should have details that I didnt know by heart. thanks.

what abt you jazz fans...what music wud you recommend?

I listen mostly to instrumental jazz so can't advise on vocalists (though I love Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan.)

Miles Davis and John Coltrane are the artists I can never get enough of. Even though I mostly listen to just certain periods of each of their long careers, these two artists sound endlessly fresh and inspirational to me.

Charlie Parker is another timeless icon and one of the most influential players, ever.

Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Charles Mingus, and Bud Powell are some of my other favorites.

how can i forget nancy wilson! her music reminds me of those stylish 60s tv shows

ah I love Dizzy Gillespie! Also Coltraine and Dave Brubeck. In fact one of my fav songs ever is by Dave Brubeck and features in a scene of The West Wing. It's so beautiful. Unfortunately though my knowledge is really limited when it comes to jazz.

I listen to mostly instrumental jazz as well. Alice Coltrane is another great musician, she was a deeply spiritual performer.

wikipedia

there are a lot of jazz LPs posted online. this is very helpful if you are interested in exploring the "genre," since many albums are out of print and difficult to find.

three good jazz blogs I know are elreza.blogspot.com, orgyinrhythm.blogspot.com and pharaohs-dance.blogspot.com

here are a few albums that I like, although they occasionally stray from jazz in the strict sense. each has a bit of ethnic flavor, though ...

http://quimsy.blogspot.com/2007/02/african-voodoo.html (hot afro funk)
http://orgyinrhythm.blogspot.com/2006/09/salah-ragab-and-cairo-jazz-band.html (egyptian)
http://perimetric.blogspot.com/2006/08/neil-ardley-ian-carr-and-don-rendell.html (greece via UK orchestral jazz)

i had never really considered manu dibango as a jazz artiste, let me try and find him music online. Does anyone here like Brazillian jazz?

My mom was really into bossa nova and I grew up listening to a lot of Sérgio Mendes and João Gilberto. I kind of moved away from it after leaving home, but a few years ago I spotted the familiar cover of Getz/Gilberto on a CD at work and was re-intrigued.

I like Bebel Gilberto, too, but to be honest I don't really know a lot about bossa nova or samba.

I love Jazz it's very relaxing

Billie Holliday
Cassandra Wilson
Diana Krall
Etta James
Probably some Frank Sinatra songs
Jamie Cullum (should check him out)
Jane Monheit
Madeleine Peyroux
Nina Simone
Norman Brown
etc etc
..I could go on forever
