Hussein Chalayan S/S 08 Paris

^Barney's hadn't carried Chalayan for ages before this season. This fall they picked up a few of the dresses and they are gorgeous, but quite expensive (2k). I expect they will drop him again if the stuff doesn't sell....which it might not, given that they are really evening dresses. :(

Hussein C is usually a lot more interesting. These clothes are too oridnary for someone like him. That laser bit though is mega cool. WHat a weird show.

BTW whats his nationality?

^he's Cypriot/Turkish/British. :flower:

ive put it on youtube
its amazing... but shockingly comercial for him

lol wow thats pretty random.

No more random than what the rest of us are...

Here is Chalayan's "proposal" for Readings:

Throughout history, all cultures have idolised and worshipped various forces, either as a means to define identity or simply as a way to feel more complete. In modern life, it can be said that this sense of idolisation is directed towards celebrity culture, the masses identifying with certain figureheads as a means to perhaps define themselves and their differences. In this light, I propose to draw parallels between Greek/Pagan and other ancient cultural perceptions of icons or gods and modern icons (people as opposed to natural forces or gods), which in today's media are evolving much more democratically, with people becoming icons far more easily than in the past. My aim is to find the means to symbolise hw all icons are kept alive by the synergy between them and their audience.

Wonderful clothes, probably the best collection he's done in awhile. He's at his best without the robotics and elaborate concepts, it's good he kept it all to a video.

I will say, it feels as if this collection should have been shown a year ago, know what I mean?

great video...
nick night really knows how to shoot fashion ...
really beautiful images...
i thought it would get boring...but it never did...

so many 'artists' try to do stuff like this...
but -as one can see - this is best left to the professionals...
really lovely...

thanks for the vid spiceboy...
i oddly watched it with different music from my computer...
ramones and things like that....
so i don't think that the music actually matters as much as they might have liked...

I watched it with no music at first, it is very well done.

thx for the link and the images:heart:
nice to see a designer to beak the old format to show his collcetion...
n good to see the clothes move!:flower:

didnt have a chance to view the whole film yet, but the scene with 3 sharp red laser dresses is the real FASHION MOMENT. such a shambala for those who doesnt only spend and consume.

i just saw the movie.. it's wonderful --there were so many things i'm sure i wouldn't be able to see in static photos that i was able to see in the video because the clothes moved  !
i love that fitted at the right, loose on the left dress which was fitted at the left and loose on the right! such a fun design
there were many others, i had to watch the video over and over to see everything

i don't exactly see much parallel with his beginning concept
i guess it must be much more abstract...
but i see it in just the red lights which shoot out from the diamonds
it would be neat to see it in 'real life' just to see what the lights would look like.. i wonder if there is an on-off switch

i loved the video. i was worried at the beginning that it will be harder this way to judge the quality of clothes and material used but surprisingly it was all clear. the laser was amazing. just out of the ordinary. he's a true artist!

yeah it would be nice if other designers did video like this too ^_^ w/ closeups, not just as runway presentation
